It isn't targetting anything towards an English audience.

I recently bought some stuff from ebay for some Polish guys I know. They don't speak English at all, so I used a site translator English -> Polish and they could make up their own mind.

This is the most ridiculous comment I've ever heard.

Somebody should have to learn English to visit a website?

Maybe I missed something, but what does that have to do with anything??

Partik was saying that somebody should *not* have to learn english to visit a website. I also agree the the comment "it's not even in english" has no relevance when it comes to usability. It's usable to the speaker of the language.

You missed something. Re-read the thread. Pay £100 when you pass "Go".
Regarding "your website looks horrible." Yes, it does. But it is highly usable (and it's not mine). That's my point. Good(-looking) design and usability do not always come together.
i have not replied to this so i will just throw down my 2 cents and let you guys continue your fight.
http://www.google.com is the best. I read the blog that Roja posted attacking its design and i could not disagree more. I for one use the preferences, sign in, yada yada yada links all the time because i search in different languages and use the personal homepage all the time. the links are at perfect locations where you can not miss them so the design is very good. every point that was given against it i disagree with. go google!

There is a difference between being the best available today, and being the best you can be.
Google is the search engine I use, and recommend.
Google today is the best available search engine today in my opinion. It is not, however, the best it could be.
What design features make it better than all other search engines?
Type Yahoo.com or msn.com into your address bar and tell me what you see... a mess of news and unrelated garbage that I do not care to see when I am searching for something.
Now type in Google.com...
What do you see... a wonderfully simple and colorful google logo, a couple links, and a search bar. Beautiful!
