Would you want to use
Writely now that its part of
Google ?
The reason why I asked is, Writely kept it free and small and had no ads and other stuff...I dont know...the ones whatever other major Cos are doing.
Now that Google has taken over, it may place ads, get info from anonymous users as usual etc which many dont seem to like.

I answered YES.
Google is big, but they aren't scary to me. Yeah they might place some ads but that is ok, because from what I have seen their ads aren't intrustive. At least to me they aren't. Also, they do at least attempt to protect user information from third parties, as they fought the United States Governments request for searches, even though none of these contained even IP addresses, much less personal information.
And on top of that...
Anything non Microsoft is a plus in my book. But thats just me.
EDIT:
http://www.openoffice.org/ Works great so I really wouldn't even use Writely.

I answered no. The only reason being I'd never heard of Writely until this thread

Im pretty sure I remember adding a 3rd option "Never heard of Writely - until now" - because I remember typing it.
Where did it go ?

No. IBM and Google both threw their support behind OpenOffice, possibly with the view of taking it online. Writely is an application on its own, hence there's no desperate need to pursue the "online OpenOffice" anymore (doesn't mean Google won't support it anymore).

No - I find that storing documents on my local pc and backing them up to my own storage devices is much more convenient than having to worry about whether a web site is up or not. Also if I need to edit or send the file to someone I don't have to connect to the Internet or worry about whether or not my Internet connection is up or down. How is this related to Writely? I am pretty sure they are both word processors but I might be wrong.

I've added that for you now

Perhaps you forgot to click "Add Option" after you added it... submitting the thread alone doesn't add the last option unfortunately.

Might shock a few people, considering my wide use of many Google tools, but not me.
I just don't see a need for it. I use blogger for my blogging (and I like simplicity in blog editing, not complexity). Almost every forum I'm on uses phpbb, which has its own editor. There just aren't many other situations where I need a word processor, let alone one that is online.
Its interesting from a competitive standpoint, reducing the value of Microsoft's Word, but its not that amazing and useful for the work and play I do.

Ah...that I did not know - thanks for the info.
In that case in all my polls, the last option must've vanished !!!

On a side-note: Microsoft have most of their Office package available to use online don't they? I'm sure I saw my project manager using it anyway. It's a cool idea, and I'm sure plenty of people find it very handy.
