Where are you from? Brit comedy does indeed rule. I like some US comedy too but I find Brit stuff a bit deeper :)

Monty Python
Fawlty Towers
Aufweidersein Pet
One Foot in The Grave
Only Fools and Horses

What about The Young Ones and Bottom? Keeping Up Appearances was always good for a laugh too.

There was a time, when Brits had the US beaten in comedy, but that day has passed.

Wedding Crashers
40 year old virgin
Swingers
Austin Powers
American Pie
Old School

The list is long and distinguished, and the roster gets better every day. If you have to fall back to Monty Python (30 YEARS ago), you are living (far) in the past.

Comedy is comedy regardless of WHEN or where it originates from, it either appeals to your sense of humour or it doesn't.

Monty Python, 2 movies: Life of Brian and The holy grail. Absolute classics :)
Someone remembers the scene in which they are being crucified and they start singing "always look on the bright side of life"?
Even thinking about them makes me smile. Indeed Brit comedy rules! I think that's a consequence of the british culture of not taking oneself too seriously.

Fawlty Towers
Oh man I love Fawlty Towers. I saw every episode about 50 times each, still can't get enough of it.

Scrubs.

Ah.
Damnit.

What about stand-ups?
Al Murray, Jimmy Carr, Billy Connelly...

Red Dwarf rocketed downhill after series six.
Series eight was just painful.
I personally think that one of the funniest things on TV at the moment (besides Scrubs) is Top Gear.

I'll second that! That and Petrolheads immediately afterwards cheers me up and helps me forget that I have to go to work the next morning :) And I'm not even a car fan...
