Network or Game Development

Post by Virus »

Hey,

I am going to major in IT, I was wondering which is a better field to specify the major in, Game Development or Network with offer CCNA,CCNP, and CCIE Cisco certification. I perfer Network but what i have heard of, it seems as if it is hard to get jobs, I was wondering if that is true as well.

neither field is all that easy to get into, per se. and a degree doesn't get you much, but can get you in the door to prove yourself in either case. I can tell you from experience, very very very very few of the supposed game degrees are even remotely worthy. It'd be far easier to get a decent networking education than game.

They actually have a degree centered around game development??? :?

Thats cool, but kind of limiting...what happens if you don't get ajob at EA or Ubisoft?

Your stuck licking stamps...cuz no web development company is going to want you...at least I wouldn't hire someone who only had skills in 3D modeling, games loops, AI, 3D rendering, etc...

the degrees I know personally are largely CS degrees, with more Math, Art and Writing added in. So you can get a job programming. It may not be glamourous, but it pays the bills. ;)

It'd be cool...but like you said...I understand that industry is pretty difficult to get into...3D game development anyways...you either need an "in" or extensive experience in game development...

I was right hardcore into Flight simulation as a kid and early adulthood...it's actually what really got me into programming...I considered applying at M$...but I've since lost interest in that and gained an interest in CMS for whatever reason.

I'd like to get a degree in being a coutch potatoe & playing video games, that would be cool :P

Games programming is one of the lowest paid areas of IT .. and it has insanely long hours .. and there's very little job security.

It's fun and "cool" though.
