PHP Game Design

Post by R4000 »

Would you be interested in a website that specialises in PHP Game Design.
Short Website Description:
PHPGameDesign.org would aim to provide help to the masses of people who want to create games in PHP, we would focus mainly on aiding others to produce games, building frameworks and maybe creating some in-house opensource games. Most support would be aimed at users who wish to create Text Based, MySQL powered games with unique aims. Support would also be provided for PHP driven flash games and using PHP as a backend/server for applications. PHPGameDesign.org also plans to have a selection of forums for users to aid other game designers. PHPGameDesign.org prospects about 10,000 views per day after 3 months of advertising and would be donation/advertisment funded. Currently the domain PHPGameDesign.org remains unregistered as I want to see what intrest there is in this project before i shell out cash on hosting and domains, then find out that nobody wants it! The whole site would have 3 tiers of administration, Administrators (hopefully around 5), Designers (registered game designers with proof of development) and Normal members.

No, not another game developer...;)

Assuming it's free I could be interested - I had a similar idea ages ago but limited time put it on the long finger. I've been spending a lot of my free private dev time working on a webgame in PHP (open source) and my involvement in the community over the past few years has demonstrated something like this is needed. At one point I even had a domain for the idea registered...

I think it's a good idea, because at the moment there is no real centre for PHP game developers, and it shows in the poor quality of most open source game projects I've seen get started. It's a bit weird when a buggy insecure PHP game can be ranked in the top ten (PHP/Turn-Based Categories) of Sourceforge afterall. Not pointing fingers at Phaos :), the game I mean is Solar Empire - it's very very insecure. I'm working on a fork, and before I completely hijack the thread...

Interested - give me a shout and maybe I can offer real help in between playing Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion...

Hey all, the site is up... no content yet.

http://www.PHPGameDesign.org

what you think of style? I tried to get one that isn't really game based, but not really techy.

Heh, i don't do validating code... I think its a pointless task when even with 100% valid code it looks different on different browsers.... I code for it to look good on all browsers, not for it to validate :)[/rant]

Well, you just guaranteed I won't ever visit, and neither will the majority of the devs on Blacknova Traders, or the Yahoo blind gamers group, or...

Way to tell a huge potential part of your already tiny audience that you don't care!
