Annoyed by the 'Click Here To Activate Control' msg in IE?

I found this website, which explains it and offers a Microsoft Released fix for it.

Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.

I would say: this is an excellent opportunity to let more people realise it's time to stop using IE :)

Another (similar) thing I find highly annoying in iE is the way it handles JS. Everytime I build in an (innocent) piece of js in a webpage, for example to toggle some content, you get a big ugly warning message "this webpage contains active content. this can be dangerous blabla bla" and then you have to allow/aprove the "dangerous active content" by hand.

If they have taken the effort to make such a message, why not change the message to something like "This is a dangerous browser to use. Are you sure you want to use this one?"

:)

That message can be turned off in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and checking (maybe unchecking) the box that says 'allow active content to run on this machine' or something like that.

Thanks, will look at that.

But what is the default? My guess is that the default is that those messages are turned on. In that case there will be many false-positives for "dangerous active content" isn't it? because the problem isn't that I get such a message, but that people visiting sites I made get them and think "ooo, what a dangerous website, quick, go away! (that internet nowadays is sooo dangerous..)"

(I often get calls from relatives about problems with their pc's. 90% of the time they say something like "it's probably a virus isn't it?" While in fact it's just some other problem. I feel a bit sorry for them, being so scared all the time....)

I used to always get calls from my ex (then girlfriend) parents/grandparents for things like this. Half the time it was those annoying popups that say "Your computer has been infected with a virus. Download this <spyware package here> to remove it."
