I didn't think of eBay. I'll check them out next time.

Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can get a steal. Also, not sure if you have any near where you live, but we have a half-price book store where I have gotten some crazy deals. I have also found some large books (you know, the $70 variety) that are selling for the low teens. Just a suggestion, if you don't mind used books (which cheap sons-a-gun like me have no problem with).

Bit of background: I'm 16, have never had any formal training or study in programming methodologies, and would describe myself as a beginning programmer who has moved on from formal "scripting"; uses TDD and OOP, only practices it loosely, but is striving to be more disciplined; and would prefer to have a book over my head rather than one which doesn't teach me anything new.
Code Complete by Steve McConnell
Sort of a reminder of everything you should know but may forget while busy learning everything else.

2nd Edition is rather expensive but the original can be had, even new, for a song now. Haven't seen the 2nd Edition but it's gotten good reviews.
Happy Birthday just in case I miss it,

Oh sweet, Buddha. That's the only book listed so far that the library has. It even has the second edition!
And thanks for the birthday wishes!
