I would certainly hope this is not in response to another thread laying around here... :?

I certainly would hope not either. You have to remember, we are all human beings here. Human beings have bad days, and they have good days. Just because someone may have been a bit rude doesn't mean you should hold anything against them or even think that is the attitude of the entire community.

I haven't seen any blatent rudeness here yet. I've seen frustration and heated debate, but outright rudness? not really.

In my experience, people respond to how they are treated. In fact, they generally respond more nicely here than they are treated as a general rule.

That said, there are moments where people are blunt - usually in response to other behavior.

I would score Devnetwork fairly high. The early founders and their successors have done everything possible to keep the atmosphere friendly and focused on helping people. They have forum rules covering behaviour towards other members to back them up. The few times I have seen outright rude behaviour are rare exceptions - it's more likely you'll the "frustrated" level posts that sometimes turn up but we try to keep them steered well clear of personal attacks (which are pointless and stupid to engage in).

I also find Devnetwork to have a very broad set of people willing to help in any problem - witness the breadth of the forum list here. It's unmatched anywhere else I can think of.

I've never come across a single message board with user base like this one. Everybody is just awesome! :)

We get the occassional troll passes by but we tend to come down on people with a bad attitude as early as possible. Most times they'll get the message and start being nice... it's very rare we'll actually need to ban somebody (although it has happened).

I'm proud to be a member of this community ;) We get a lot of people who seem to enjoy hanging around which is nice.

I am not holding anything against anyone, and I love the community.

We all come from different places and we all have different personalities and expectations. It's just important not to forget that sometimes people are oblivious to something that might be obvious to you. I think if we all keep it real and not get upset at some of the 'stupid' questions everything will be cool. I voted 3, but there is always room for improvement.

Does posting questions without thinking much -- and expecting others to code for you -- count as rudeness? Or is this poll just about the tone of responses to questions? I want to know before I vote.

Silly thread...I wasn't going to reply but I noticed others did...so I figured I would too :P

Impossible to answer this poll...

The community as a whole...rude??? That would be sterotyping :P

Rude...by my own definition would require a deliberate act of ignorance...which no one has done thus far...

No one, to my knowledge has started a hate thread towards me (surprise surprise) or anyone else...

I personally interact with everyone on this forum differently...sometimes I butt heads and others I completely agree and sometimes there is no point is even replying...

C'est la vie...

I don't think any community as a whole has a *tenor* or *attitude* when it's internet based, as any community online will likely have members of very different backgrounds, beliefs, etc...so it would be hard to make everyone agree on one single thing.

Cheers :)

Sometimes i have the feeling this community is too nice... I really become annoyed when i see yet another post from someone who didn't bother to read the rules, manual, etc. Anyway, instead of posting a nasty reply, i usually simply ignore those users now...

(This has the advantage that i don't start flaming a user that actually tried to read documentation, but failed to understand it.. I guess we all have been there...)

I've been posting here for a while.. I've found that each member that responds usually have their own way of doing so. I have found a few to be consistently rude/disrespectful. Although, none of them resort to personal attacks, which is great! Personally, i look forward to responses from some members rather than others.

Overall, the community is great.
