WTF M$

Post by alex.barylski »

http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=84

I'm getting more and mroe tired of M$ forcing this bullsmurf...

Seriously...they are starting to spend more time on preventing pirated use than they are...on preventing security issues, features, etc...

The reason I've always liked M$ is I still feel proprietary code is a good thing...slightly more favourable over patents...

Easier to protect code... :P

Is Mac proprietary? Since they started using *nix and now Intels...do the OS become open source? What about the applications that run on it???

Can I write propritary applications for Mac or Linux, in that I don't have to release source code???

In anycase...this M$ move is yet another B$ move on their behalf :(

I only read the first two paragraphs of that article but..

Although every piece of software I own short of my games is pirated I think that they should take some time to protect their investment.

If I could write something worth money and someone stole it, I honestly would go to their house and knock them out. Microsoft may not be able to knock me out, but they sure can make it harder for the wonderful crackers who pirate their software to do their job.

Little do they know, I will just go fully open-source. muahahaha

I just finished the article and thought "wow, I'm glad I don't isntall updates".

I am supposing they will have to install an update to check if you don't have the latest WGA installed and since I don't download any updates.. :)

Heres the thing...open source doesn't mean *free* in that sense...but it seems most people see it that way...and it's why I almost refuse to go the OSS way...

Shame on you for admiting to using pirated software...although I'm sure a vast majority use *some*

I'll be damned to pay $40 for an application I'll use once... :P

M$ is not preventing crackers...their <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> off legit users...

My self...I paid in full for M$ Windows XP and most every other software package I use...

Crackers enjoy *cracking* software...so really M$ is just wasting time...

They should focus on selling copies to legit people and accept that some will use their software illegally no matter what they do...

However I'm starting to think maybe...they've done studies and have proven to themselves that anti piracy measures actually work...

Cua this much flack...can't be worth it unless they actually see an increase in sales...in which case...

Like popup windows and span annoy people...they clearly bring in money as they are continued to be in use...

Cheers :)

If you have a non pirated version of windows installed - I really don't see the problem. If there is a problem, move to linux.

In other news, blind hate directed at microsoft is always good for a laugh. If microsoft wants to make sure that you are not using a pirated copy of their software - fine. If you are using a pirated version of anything - you deserve to be cut off.

Thats not really the point...at least not what I meant...

The fact they are constantly forcing people to have systems installed when they are not *really* required...

Like the case with IE and having it integrated into the OS...

This is another example of the "I don't need or want that on my system which already runs slower than it should" :P

I disagree with you. For MS to force users to install software that "checks in" on a daily basis is ludacris. This reaffirms my commitment to Linux, and driver support for Linux is getting better with every release. My windows installation is "genuine" but I still don't want that crap on my computer.

EDIT: And BTW, I have switched to Linux. I still have a box running Windows, but it won't be around any longer than I need it to.

I simply can not afford Microsoft products while most gaming companies have poor support for other operating systems.

I'll pay for it when I can afford it.

WINE seems to play a majority of the popular games without a problem I used to play Diablo II on it all the time.

I don't play *video games* per se...I only played Flight Simulators :P

XPlane, MSFS, FlightGear, Fly, Pro Pilot, and so on...

Occasionally I played some fighter pilot games...but I found them un-realistic...

I much prefered having to plan an entire flight from take off to landing...determine my best arrival and using real world IAP's my dad obtained...land a learjet which just travelled 2800 nm... :P

I love that game...but it's been a while since I played...actually a long while...but still it's in my blood... :)

Nothing better than monitoring instruments for 4.5 hours watching scenery go by and different views of the aircraft...weather changes, etc...

Anyways...yea...back on topic :P

I loveeed space sims like Wing Commander/Privateer.

Anyways, back on topic.

When it comes down to it, I believe that Microsoft has every right to protect their software from piracy, however I do not approve of their recent method.

Users of the operating system should not be limited by whether they download updates or not.

That article comes out in some form or another every time Microsoft makes an update.

And calling them M$ makes you look like you originally posted in the late 90's or that you're an utter, utter twat.
