Ye' old general discussion board. Basically, for everything that isn't covered elsewhere. Come here to shoot the breeze, shoot your mouth off, or whatever suits your fancy. This forum is not for asking programming related questions.

Actually, just the opposite. Through their Summer of Code program, they invest in improving open source applications by paying students to work on OpenSource projects, ranging from Apache to GAIM. Its an amazing gesture of goodwill, and shows they aren't just about the bottom line and buying everything in site.

There has been substantial discussion about their dark fiber, and while I don't think its "next" on their horizon, I would suspect that eventually, they will develop a product using it.

I'd argue they're not showing any M$ signs of behaviour. The main challenge to their do no evil motto is their compliance (or a related party's compliance) with all those Chinese internet laws. Outside that what is there? Have they released dodgy products and engaged in any browser wars yet? .
Aside from the worrying idea that if any government decides to oppress its citizens that Google, Yahoo, and co may decide to cooperate in the name of the mighty Buck, Google has competed and stood tall on its own innovation. It's simply a well run company.

Amen to that. I use words pretty good, but that was way better than what I could have or would have said.

awesome search awesome product and they get things done but they are well on thier way to be the next microsoft.
Awesome search product for sure, but really, can you name another product that really stands out? Gmail? Yahoo! and MSN are still bigger. Their chat program? Google Maps? Picasa? Blogger? Sure, they have good products, but they aren't earth shattering, they haven't overthrown anyone outside of the search arena. Google is a great big company with lots of cool ideas and cool products they've either created or purchased, but how many do you honestly use every day? Me, just one really: search. Sure, I use Gmail, but it's just an email system, nothing special, and easily replaced.
