I bought this a few months ago from best buy for about $1,000.

No Monitor
2GB Ram
300GB HD
Athlon 64bit Dual Core X2 4200+
DVD Burner/ CD Burner combo with Lightscribe
Windows XP Media Center (XP Pro)
DVD Reader
TV/AM/FM Tuner
Camera card reader
Ethernet Card/Fax Modem
ATI 128MB Video Card

I would not pay $1,100 for the machine you described up there :(

Anything with a celeron in it is going to kill you on speed anyway. I don't want to get into a debate here but IMO it's a stripped down pentium. I have always been a Pentium fan but this Athlon I have smokes Pentium. The ONLY way I have ever even come close to remotely slowing this PC down is by running very CPU intensive applications that are multi threaded and designed to use dual core chips. Anything else will only use 70-80% CPU usage which leaves plenty of CPU for anything else.

This thing idles at between 0-2% CPU usage. It's a monster

really? you didn't get a monitor. that's easily another 100 something. twice the power on the video card.. maybe if i can find something the same price but a gig of RAM it'd be worth it...q

i wouldn't either. build one yourself and you will get a much better deal. if you have friends with old computers then you can maybe get a good deal from some of the parts if they are willing to give em up. for example i paid my friend 1 corona and a cigarette for my 80gig hard drive. it may be used stuff but that certainly does not make it bad. if you are thrifty then you could get that computer you said for about $500.

also make sure you check out some of the used computer stores. they always have great deals on some decent stuff.

I edited my post charles so you might want to look at it again. I just want you to know that I would HIGHLY encourage you to look for better specs for the same if not lower price.

I was originally going to get a PC from Tiger Direct. The PC I ended up purchasing from Best Buy would have cost me 2k from Tiger. Look at the specs man. I lucked out as well, the only reason I ended up going to Best Buy is because Tiger screwed up my order.

Here check it out..

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 0391940047

Oooh looks like they doubled the Video memory on it

It even comes with a remote control, which actually is easy to use and is great for watching all the movies I have got.

EDIT: Check out this.

that is WAY over priced. you can get a pretty sick machine for that or a pretty decent laptop for that <span style='color:blue' title='I&#39;m naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span>

I'll back up the comment by ~astions on celeron CPUs. I'm working on a machine with a celeron (1.8GHz) right now and blahh... it's crap. As soon as I open a page with a shockwave animation or something the thing just grinds to a halt (ok exeggeration but it is rubbish).

Doesn't usually affect me much because all I do is write code and open web pages but I still wouldn't pay much for it. When it comes to desktop systems I build my own anyway, although I usually can't beat the prices Dell sell for...
