Never underestimate the value of saving time by paying money.

Even for a game.

Ugh.

I played a Paladin to 38. Ran instances.

I played a Warrior to 60. Tanked Rag.

I played a Mage to 52. Owned Battlegrounds.

After all of that the game was such an incredibly boring experience I decided to go back to playing First-Person Shooters. :)

Or EVE isk.

Everquest gold used to trade at a higher value than the Lira (while it was popular and the Lira still existed).

then what's the point of playing? Isn't the concept of the game to 'earn' your way to where you go. I wouldn't consider buying virtual cash a savings of time if the point of playing the game was to spend time to earn that cash....

why not just buy the game for $49.95, then spend another 2 grand on a really good character, and yet another 2 grand on some cash...then you don't need to play at all.

I've heard this so many times, that it is exactly why I have 19 alts, and none have hit 60 yet. Although that will change when the expansion comes out.. I suspect by then me and my lady will be approaching the 60's.

Maybe.

Thats a key question.

For people that love RPG's, the path is the way.. or put another way, going through the process of getting from level 1 to level 60 *is* the fun.

However, because they added a wealth of PvP content from day one, a rather different group of players see it as a big alternative version of Quake3 Arena: A first person shooter.

Viewed from that point of view, suddenly the 'grind' from 1-60 is in the way of you smashing it up in the Arena. Many of the players buying gold are people that want high-end gear, characters, and the like. They just want "the best", so they can strut about and compete at the upper levels. Why bother grinding to get there?

Personally, I agree with you. For me, its not a race. I've seen people hit 60 in under 3 weeks of game time, and I'm puzzled as to why to do so? Whats the challenge? Where is the enjoyment of the process from here to there?

But then again, Battlegrounds and endgame instances don't do much for me.
