Mysql developers - say goodbye to 3.23 & 4.0!

Customers using MySQL 3.23 and MySQL 4.0 will have to buy a MySQL Network Subscription to receive binary updates for those products after Aug 1 (for 3.23) and Oct. 1 (for 4.0), Arnö wrote. A basic subscription starts at US$595 per server per year in the U.S., or €495 in Europe.
By the end of this year, expect every major BSD and Linux distro to be moved to 4.1, and webhosts to be close behind.

YAY, progress! Better code, more features, hot stuff. Personally, I'm deeply looking forward to dependably knowing that innodb tables will be available.

wow i guess it never really occured to me that someone would run outdated software like that, im used to dedicated hosting running software to my specs

I'd guess close to half (if not more) of the hosts out there still run outdated versions of both php and mysql.

Most of the hosts that I have experience with are only up to 4.0. Just before the password hash conversion thing. In fact, when I set up my dedicated server, it only had 3.23 (some of you may remember my experience with trying to update to 4.1 from that). I have yet to find a widely know host that has the most updated version of the LAMP stack installed.

Bear in mind that I am not looking that hard, but I have looked, and haven't found one.

im generally used to updating once every few months, last time i dumped my server and installed CentOS. it came with apache httpd (2.x) php 5.1.4 and mysql 4.1

on my desktop for general purposes im runin OSX Tiger and for dev. im running win2k3 and an install of Xampp server.... (apache, php, mysql, modperl, ssl, ect...) i like this because its an all in one package thats updated rather quickly after a release of apache or php ect.
