That looks cool 8O

Next computer I buy will be a Mac (possibly not even an intel based one) so since you can't currently buy parts to build your own (can you??) I guess I'll just get what comes inside it :) TBH anything considered "average" these days would suit me in a desktop system since I don't tend to push my CPU to it's limits. Heck I've managed with my celeron laptop for a good 3 years now.

I wonder how long before AMD come back with something better in terms of performance?

according to that article, they won't be making any major architecture changes until '07 or possibly '08.

Not at all. From that article:
We're getting the impression that AMD may be cutting prices more than what we've seen here, but we have no idea to what degree yet. By the end of this year AMD will also offer higher clock speeds as well as its new 4x4 platform (dual socket, dual core desktop Athlon 64 FX motherboards), but that's all we can expect for the foreseeable future.
The scuttlebutt on the 4x4's is that they will more than double the Intel performance, for less money. Its a brutal counter-attack, and if they pull it off, they will leap far ahead again.

Not to mention, Intel can't afford a price war, while AMD can. For every drop in retail pricing that Intel does, they also have to pass that along to institutional buyers (Dell, Compaq, etc), many of which don't have standing wide-scale contracts with AMD - allowing AMD to brutally drop the price - viciously attacking Intel.

Intel will take back the crown, but not for long.
