Re: Anyone speak Spanish and want to improve their English?
I've no problems to help you in that regard. I used to have a couple of friends (english speakers) who helped me to start writing english. However, I've to improve it, beacause I'm only able, at the moment, to express just the basic things, but I definetely need more vocabulary. Feel free to email me to julianmlp (a) gmail.d11wtq wrote:I'm looking for someone who'll tolerate my tongue-tied Spanish nonsense in my truly novice stages of learning the language. I basically want to be able to exchange regular, correctly spelled and grammatically correct Spanish written emails with somebody who can advise me, honestly and critically where I'm going wrong. I'd happily do the same for the spanish speaker writing in English.
It would be two or three emails per week, of about 400-500 words in length.
BTW, Can I ask why are you trying to learn Spanish. I always thought if I were an english speaker, I'll chose
chinese to learn, given that both languages will be so important...

Sorry to butt in, but I thought I'd share a little thought...
I didn't realize it until teaching my children English (using a curriculum called English From the Roots Up) where the language is taught from the Latin and Greek roots. Learning that Latin actually led to Old French which ultimately ended being the source for the Romance Languages (French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and English) has made English remarkably easier to understand and use. And I was raised on English (American).

Are you sure that German and English are Romance Languagues? I've always been told that they are not...Everah wrote:Sorry to butt in, but I thought I'd share a little thought...

Btw, from an spanish point of view, it's a good advice using as many latin-root words as one can(when we want to write in English). In modern English they seems to becoming less and less used though

~julian_lp,
I've sent an email to ~Everah earlier today* but since you're looking to improve your vocabulary I'll happily send you the equivalent and help you out (obviously at a more advanced level) with your english. I'll email you at the account you registered on this forum with
* Hmm... ~Everah, your mail server rejected my email with a 553 error which usually means it rejected "me" not your account. I've re-sent it using a Gmail server.... hopefully that will work

Since leaving school I've always had the idea that I should learn another language and Spanish speaking (european) places are the ones I've visted most frequently on my holidays. Spanish "sounds" nice to listen to but most importantly it's very widely used, and is probably the language I would use most frequently myself. I'd love it, if next time I go on holiday to a spanish speaking country I could speak in Spanish with people.BTW, Can I ask why are you trying to learn Spanish.
