Windows as a dev environment is a mixed bag.
I like being able to test on it, as lots of users use it. I also find the GUI to be fairly comfortable. Thats the positive side.
On the negative side, not having my favorite tools handy (nano, grep, svn, ls, diff, bash, ssh) gets tedious. Even worse, I spend most of my time editing in nano, and doing so directly on windows just isn't the same. I've gone so far as to install cygwin and nano on windows, to get closer, but its just not the same.
There is a certain comfort in having your environment setup "just right".

i want to use linux but i don't want to go thru the hassle of linux. sorry, it's like you going from *nix to Win. although i can do OSX just fine. better actually. i impressed my Mac friends when i could work with each computer side by side very fast and easilly for debugging and coding or just general use.
either way i'd just like to have a computer that has a simple to use linux already on it so i don't have to bother and then just begin coding with it. learn to use it and THEN install it. but i can't do that so i don't bother. mleh

Linux is pretty intuitive, in my opinion. Not the command line stuff, but the getting around the desktop stuff. If you find yourself in Windows wandering around learning how to do things, you will be fine in Linux.

prolly but the install. i never had one work so i quit. i don't have very much patience and my time is valueable. anytime that i'm not coding is time that i'm losing more and more potential money
i work too hard. lol
