Music Community Script

Post by derek barnstorm »

Hi,

I am trying to set up a website so that bands and musicians can upload music and a profile, sort of like Myspace, Garage Bands or OverPlay. Does anyone know where I might be able to find such a script FREE. I have already checked out places like HotScripts but couldn't find the right sort of thing.

Thanks,

Des.

if you've already looked at hotscripts and come up empty, I'd suggest just writing your own. It doens't sound like that huge of an endeavor (even if you're just beginning php).

I really don't know of any off hand. I know some people have suggested some books on this forum. You might try doing a search for 'good book' or something. You can always use this forum as a resource for help too.

I'd suggest you just get started on the project and when you run into an issue, come here and post it and we'll help you as best we can.

Yes... get a book... come here when things get hard or confusing... I read PHP 5 and MySQL Bible. It was pretty good. I definately learned with it. I have been recommended this one many times (When I was just learning), but can't comment because I never bought it.

For the commercial part :

I think it will be very hard to compete with sites like myspace & purevolume ;)

Then don't compete with them. Instead, offer a service that they don't so you can enter their market but still be unique.

As for the original poster, I would look around google or other forums to see what others have come up with. I know this is something that comes up fairly regularly around here. Scottayy developed a similar site (http://www.showmypro.com/) and evilmonkey did one also (http://www.tmeet.com/).

On Last.FM people can upload their music and it actually streams it to people who it thinks will like it. Really amazing site.
