I have posed this question on a bunch of other sites and have had mixed responses. Just curious to see if there are other metalheads here on this board. Some of my favs: Pantera, Sepultura, Slayer, Fear Factory, OLD Metallica, Type O Negative and a bunch of others.

I think the closest thing I have to metal is probably Dream Theater.. maybe I have others, but I'm horrible at figuring out what genre the music I listen is, nor do I really care. It's music, I enjoy it. That's all I need to know and understand.

Genres are over-rated.

Good music === Good music imo

not true.
There are genres that include a lot more good bands than other genres.

/disagree @ thiscatis

Sometimes I find it way hard to give a good band a genre.

I'm not discussing different taste of music, everyone has his/her own preferences
but what i'm trying to point out is that
for example a genre with bands like Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Clash, Sex Pistols were foundations of
a whole new social culture, a way of thinking and in a way they changed the world.
You can't say that from lightweight genres like some Dance Music that people forget 1 month after they had airtime..

That's funny... I'm listening to Dream Theater right now. (Images and Words)... but when it comes to metal, and music in general... I only need to say one word...

TOOL

But I do like Opeth, ISIS (Who is opening for Tool in this tour w00t!! - going to see them w/Tool on sep 2!!), Porcupine Tree (Who seem to be incorperating more metal into their newer albums), and many more.

But are you a metalhead?

For me, I used to be into Metallica (early 90's) but that was about as thrash metal as I got. I was really into Seattle bands for a while. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Screaming Trees, Alice in Chains. Never got really into the Stone Temple Pilots, but that is probably because they were total Pearl Jam biters.
