Slashdot - "Jani Taskinen, one of the lead developers of the Zend Engine (the engine that powers PHP), as well as a lead developer for the thread safety system and other core components of the PHP project, has quit in a relatively cryptic message to the php-internals mailing list. Jani has been involved with PHP for about 6 years and his loss will undoubtedly be a big blow for the PHP project."

*Apparently* he's quit because PHP is backed by Zend who are an Israeli company, and Israel delibrately attacked a UN peacekeeper force and killed one of the people who Jani served with during his 6 month tour in Afghanistan. There's no firm facts to back that up yet though.Everah wrote:That dude sounds way overstressed. I hope things work out for him.

Assuming it is true, that is pretty crazy.onion2k wrote:*Apparently* he's quit because PHP is backed by Zend who are an Israeli company, and Israel delibrately attacked a UN peacekeeper force and killed one of the people who Jani served with during his 6 month tour in Afghanistan. Let's try to keep this from getting political...
Why he quit: his decision.
How he quit: his decision.
There are a lot of companies that have many ties to different parts of the world. I may sound completely ignorant, but Zend was founded by two men that are Isreali (Ziev Suratski and Andi Gutmans). They attended university in Isreal. However, the Zend headquarters is right here in Santa Clara on Stevens Creek Boulevard. They are an American company, or so I thought. Am I wrong?
EDIT | d11 beat me to it.

A Canadian was killed in that attack...
Maybe I should stop supporting PHP...ASP.NET all the way...
Seriously though, I"m getting tired of that middle east conflict...
Giant parking lot *coughs*
Harsh, I know, but I'm so tired of the animosity between those nations and it's starting to transcend into my country!!!
Anyways, I'm sure PHP won't suffer after losing a single key player...so no worries ya'all...
