I'm a avid cyclist my self, no where nears professional as those guys of course...
I was reading the Wiki on the Tour yesterday and read everything but couldn't find the average daily distance those guys travel...
I know they go about 2200 miles in 20-30 days, averaging about 25 MPH, but the duration of each stage is not clear...
I can't just calculate the estimated daily run times, because it's unclear as well as to the exact distance and exact number of days the Tour takes...
Does anyone know what the distance those guys ride in a day is approximately...
I have no intentions on competing in the Tour

Although it would be for a Canadian to win it...I like to have some professional measurement to judge myself against while i'm cycling to work, etc...
I can hold 20 MPH for 45 minutes, but after that I'm dying of exhaustion...
Anyone know what the average stage ace is in terms of time or distance???
Cheers

Total distance: 3657 km.
Stages: 21
Average speed: 40,784 km/u
Distance per stage: 174km
Average time: 4 hours 20 minutes
Pretty much! And pretty fast

http://www.olntv.com/tdf/stagecalendar/ ... s=calendar for length of each stage, and you can find times for each racer for each stage from there too.

Nice...
Thanks guys...
Clearly I have a ways to go before I'm competing in the Tour
Supposedly, these guys are arguably the most in "shape" atheletes in the world eh...
I can't image why?

Long and hard training Hockey. Instead of spending 80hrs/week on their buts like us, they spend 80hrs a week,.. uuh ... on their buts. But then on a bike! Moving their legs.
And of course they have great teams of people taking care of them .... making sure their training pays off

It's all about watts. Those guys can pump out almost 7 watts per kilogram. The average person outputs about half as much.

Well I can peddle 20 MPH...but not for more than an hour or so...
3-4 more hours and I could compete

Still likely in last place, but supposedly...these guys are respected more for being last than any other position other than top 10...
Even those guys that tried to loose couldn't beat me

Looks like the Tour De Dope is just as bad as baseball. I haven't been on a bike since I was 8... I never could stand the seats.

I used to love biking but not like Tour de France. I was on off-road X-country biker. Uphill challenges were my thing!! Downhills are fun but nowhere near as satisfying to complete. This was when I was a little more athletic as a teenager. Heck, I even had big leg muscles from doing it

Now I'm just a skinny bugger
/me ponder's whether to get bike out and go for a ride
I used to live in countryside like this... I do miss that:
This here was the cliff right behind my house (we were a few hundred feet below it

) and we used to cycle up there (not the cliff face of course!)
And this is it from the top:

I still go for a ride every now and then when the weather is nice. Here is a picture of me and my bike when I brought her home the first day:

I know eh?
F*ck I'm tired of athletes and all this contreversy...
It's like, let them take the drugs already...so everyone has a fare chance...legally...
Those that want to compete at a organic level, can do so, but those that don't can do so too...
Sounds savage, perhaps, but...really...we all know they mostly all do it anyways and it's not gonna stop...
So why oppress it anymore? Like gay marriage...
Let them do what they want or need, if they die of heart attack due to some drug, their adults...they know the risks...
Silly...but thats professional sports these days...
Irconically, thats what got me into reading about Tour de France, was a MSN article on Flyd Landis and his doping allegations...
Savage...
