A rather bland description of Fremont, California.
The City of Fremont's take on Fremont, California (#2 is important, but publicly I can't say why).
More bland information about the city I was born in (Newark, California).
Now, from an insiders perspective...

Now, from an insiders perspective...
- Fremont is a large, affluent city hell-bent on becoming the next industrial mecca with the small town feel.
- Year after year companies are lured to Fremont and with that comes more money-making people prepared to drive real estate prices up.
Some well known Fremont based companies:- VA Software (OSTG, Slashdot, Sourceforge, Freshmeat)
- Logitech
- New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (The only auto manufacturing plant west of the rockies)
- Many others, but I am drawing a blank right now

- We are currently prospecting the Oakland A's baseball to team to move here.
- We are a relatively low-building-height city, with the largest building being a 10(?) story hotel.
- Fremont is only 50 years old and is made up of 5 former districts: Mission San Jose, Irvington, Centerville, Decoto and Niles.
- Newark, refusing to be gobbled up 50 years ago, incorporated itself and became its own city.
- Newark, until recently, was the home of a large Sun Microsystems campus.
- Newark can be easily refered to as the 'armpit of the Bay Area'.
- Newark is completely border by either Fremont or the waters of the SF Bay.
- For a long time, the primary industry in Newark was shipping. Then it became salt. Now, who knows?

1. Pacific Ocean
2. Torrey Pines
3. Balboa Park (wish I had a pic of the 1915 era buildings)
4. Old Town Mexican Cafe, carnitas
5. Rubios, fish tacos
6. Mission Valley
7. Chargers football (well, I keep hoping)

I would give my left arm for some of that. I lived in Milwaukee for several years. Hated freezing my tutu off, but the bratwurst was almost worth it.Appleton, bratwurst

I wonder if that's the town which the Simpsons is based after...which reminds me...
Matt Groening, his father I believe was actually from Winnipeg...the Simpsons actually have 3-4 episodes with references to Winnipeg...
I'm not sure anyone knows what a Winnipeg is, but for us Peggers, it's damn cool

Hmm, well I live in London, and by far the coolest thing is my new flat.
And when the hell did Pooh bear move from the hundred-acre wood to America?
[edit]A bit of research shows that Milne's son (Christopher Robin) had a toy bear that he named 'Winnie' because of a bear in London Zoo that came from Winnipeg.
So, there we are.

I live in Brighton, England; It's pretty much gone downhill very rapidly over the last 4 years. It seems to be full of pr***s wanting to start fights everywhere!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brighton
I digress...cool stuff:
A nice (albiet) stoney beach
It is the spiritual home of MOD culture (I don't know if Americans will know what this is, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mod_%28lifestyle%29)
It's the San Francisco of the UK, i.e there are alot of hills, creative types and it's very *ahem* colourful in someways.
No recorded murders in over a year!
"American Express has a large, distinctive building just east of the city centre, close to the seafront. Brighton has been particularly popular with "new media" companies, and has on occasion been referred to as "Silicon Beach""
bad stuff:
very expensive! £140($260~) a week for a small one bedroom flat+high council tax
Highest number of heroin addicts per capita in the UK

I forgot to mention that about Fremont...
Although the entire SF Bay Area is insanely expensive as far as housing goes, Fremont is particularly expensive. In my neighborhood, 3 and 4 bedroom homes that were built in the early 1960's are being sold for between $800,000 and $1,000,000. Rents, on average, are around $1500 per month for a 2 bedroom apartment. More for houses.
Yeah, real estate out here sucks the purple monkey alright.
