Encryption

I am looking for some good encryption program. Something that is (statistically speaking) unbreakable. I was trying to find a free version of PGP but couldn't come up with anything.
Also, is PGP now forced to step down their encryption so the government can still crack it? I know when it was first released the dude who made it was considered a terrorist and all sorts of stuff but I don't know if the NSA stepped in and did anything like they did with previous encryption standards.
So, is there another free and not regulated public key encryption program out there? Maybe just an older version of PGP?
