well..basically my stupid laptop didn't come with a f***ing windows xp disk, just some STUPID install partition (that eats into my hdd space)... that can't actually do anything, i.e theres NO f***ing recovery console, so basically I can't run fixmbr and delete my Ubuntu partition because it has grub on it ...which lets me boot into windows...so i HAVE TO NOW download windows from the net and run a pirated version...THANKS MICROSOFT/PACKARD BELL.

KILL KILL KILL.

ps is there another way to fix the mbr

Assuming Pro SP2....

If you just need a recovery console, you should be able to run that off of any XP cd laying around.

If you are wanting to completely reinstall XP...

If it's an OEM version, just use any other OEM version CD you can find, then call M$ when you get up and running, and tell them what you had to do. Just be sure to have your genuine serial key from the holo-sticker (that should be) on the bottom of the laptop. I've done this 10+ times in the past few years, most recently with a DELL laptop my friend bought on ebay that came with no install CDs at all.... never had a problem.

If it's a retail version, I think you can use any other retail XP install CD.. so long as you use your genuine key when it asks.

We are susposed to mention pirating on the forums.

Take my word for it. :P

P.S. PM Me.

You forced yourself into piracy :p

(And blame your pc manufacturer for not delivering the right installation media... Or blame yourself for buying the wrong 'combo' package of hardware and software...)

Strange how it didn't even cross your mind to go out and buy a copy, even though you're the idiot that brought a PC without checking what software it came with.

Weren't we just talking about how there aren't any rants or flames in these forums yesterday, and how everyone was professional?

It did come with the software; just in a bootable partition, which is probably ok for someone who's never going to install Ubuntu or anything other than Windows XP.

"I'm going to steal something to make this thing I brought work properly, whilst pretending I'm a victim"
I'm sorry, but he is an idiot, even more so for coming onto a public forum and openly admitting what he wants to do. It's not a flame, it's a fact.
What I find a bit odd is that everyone so far seemed to find it a perfectly acceptable solution.

Thanks for my ten points.

The moderators don't find it acceptable, hence the forum rule.

Good job that was pointed out in this topic so quickly, then.

Seriously, when did the world adopt a "theft is fine as long as it isn't something physical" attitude?
