outlook doing some weird stuff...

this behavior has been going on for about 8 months and I've just been too lazy to really care...but now I've had enough. When I first reboot my machine (almost never), outlook loads almost instantaneously and will continue to do so for about 12 solid hours (closing the app and reopening). However, after roughly 12 hours when I open outlook, it hangs on the splash screen for about 3 minutes. It does finally load, but it takes forever to do so. It's almost faster for me to reboot the machine and have it come right up, than to wait for the splash screen. I usually just fire it up, walk a way for a bit, then come back to read emails, but it's driving me nuts.
anyone have any ideas on this? I know it's kind of a shot in the dark, but just thought I'd ask in case any of you have run into similar issues and resolved them.

This is the only article I was able to find that sounds similar to your issue in the Microsoft Knowledge base:

I would love to find an Email client that stores emails in a mysql database. That would make me warm and fuzzy inside. Almost like a hot chick... well not quite.

I imagine an extension could be made for Thunderbird to do such a thing, if one doesn't exist already.

Keep that out of the forum. Seriously.

I meant hugging. Sorry.
Edit: I didn't realize how dirty that sounded until I thought about it for a while. I totally didn't mean it that way lol. Oops..

I'll also vouch for thunderbird, much much...
safer, not to mention the built in spam blocker...
Oh, and that smiley just rules..

Can't you just leave Outlook opened (only minimized)?
And I second the others: in those 3 minutes you are waiting you can download Thunderbird and have it running. I get at least one question a month from clients, relatives etc about how to block all the spam in their Outlook. I don't have that problem, with Thunderbird 99,9% goes straight to the junk folder. Maybe one mail a week slips through and must be removed manually.
(and that smiley is the coolest!)

strike 1, strike 2, and strike 3.
as for someone elses comment about leaving it open, I can not do that because I back up my pst file every night and I can't back it up if Outlook is open. which is also the reason I'm not using thunderbird. I have a pst file that has thousands of emails in it that I need to keep (and I reference quite a bit).
I wish I could figure this one.....

Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it?

Could it be a mail server/exchange server validation issue? That is a total shot in the dark, but I seriously cannot think of anything else.
Feyd: You stole it from me

. I was so looking for the perfect time to use that smilie and you beat me to it.
