What am I going to do?! :P

Post by Chris Corbyn »

Well, finally my laptop has decided to get it's own back from its severe over-use and has now died.

Slightly distraught  It means the only time I can use the internet or write code is while I'm at work unless I pay rates for an internet cafe. There's so many things you *can't* do without the internet... fully sucks. Not to mention the fact I'll still be paying the £17 a month connection since I'm on a contract. Grr... damn computers.

/goes off to cry

Bite the bullet and get a new one? ... that is if you can't piece one together from spare parts, chewing gum and a paper clip.

LOL yeah, my laptop DC port and power cable have been held in place with stick tape for the past 3 months. The port is snapped off the board and the solder refuses to bond anymore (we tried to repair it too many times).

I'll have another go at re-soldering it over the next week and see what happens. Can't really afford a new PC at the moment so I guess it's worth a shot :)

There was a time when I was paying $90/mo. That was DSL at 1.5mbps up and down with two static IPs. (This was five years ago.)

Hmm... turn this into an internet connection thread.

According to some sources, my download rate is 90% than all other Optonline customers. About 300kb/s downstream and 20kb/s upstream. Really sucks.

Damn hell, that is outrageous! Mine is $17/Mo for AT&T (was SBC) DSL. They have a special right now where it is like $12/mo or something like that. Those dudes are sticking it to you.

Any chance that your company has any old ones laying around they can 'indefinitely loan' you?

Yeah I've chilled out a bit today... I was bit narked last night cos it's been playing up for so long.

I should be able to pick up some really knackered old hardware from work... if I can't get enough to make an entire system it'll be a start anyway :)

Sounds like a fun job to piece together a system. =]
Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.

Not so much fun as adding 'Smilies!' button everywhere... Image
