Free public nameservers for web browsing?

Post by Chris Corbyn »

Hi,

I'm not referring to DNS servers for hosting, I need the IP of a server for resolving domain names while I browse the web. My ISP's servers are crap.... they take anything up 10 seconds to respond and it's pretty consistent.

I was running my own on my VDS but it's not recursive so I had it tied to another recursive nameserver but that's down today so I'm back to my slow ones provided by my ISP :(

Anybody have a list of (recursive) nameservers that I can stick in resolv.conf as a substitute? :)

I almost always use 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 (Level 3) ... seem to be very stable and quick (i'm in southern ontario)...

The other option is OpenDNS -- http://www.opendns.com/
