WOW has never tickled my fancy.
Infact I'm just generally getting bored of gaming altogether.
I've played other games 'professionally' (FPS.. CS, CoD, Q3) in the past and I have to say, that is probably what killed it all for me. the fun goes out the window when you are finding yourself playing under pressure to win and for reasons other than just the enjoyment of the game.
Took me a while (2 years+) to realise I wasn't enjoying the games and was playing them in tournaments etc out of my incessant need to compete and win at said games, whilst I wasn't actually enjoying the playing - only the winning. So when I didn't win it was a big upset. I look back now and can safely say I was obsessed and addicted. Had you asked me at the time I wouldn't of said the same.. quite the opposite and would have been offended and possibly retaliate in similar ways I have done on these forums to others (
) in the past.
I occassionaly dabble in a bit of CoD2 and play a lot of offline RTS stuff like Generals ZH (modified, can't stand default
) and I am still sub'd for EVE but rarely play more than a few minutes a week just to keep my character training. Only really started to play that as an escape from the world of competitive gaming and it was then I realise just how much of a grasp it had on me.
It wasn't all gloom and doom however, being paid (albeit not a lot) to attend tournies all over the place with people I got on with (rest of clan) on the best machines, and often getting free stuff like GFX cards, CPU's mobo's etc, meeting new like minded people from all over Europe, and even I guess the 'fame' that I received (though that was odd, because it was all received online and occasionally at LAN's so it wasn't like I had the papparazzi on my behind
)
All stories to tell the grandkids anyway.

Meh I can't really get into games. I used to have a super nintendo that I played a lot. But I was like 11 or 12. That's about it for me.
Unless I'm gambling.....
Do not let me near any money that's even half-important while gambling.

WoW runs great on my MacBook Pro... better so, than it does on an identically spec'd Acer laptop running windows. DirectX What?feyd wrote:I was considering getting into World of Warcraft while I was shopping Macs for school. Why? Because it's one of the few professional level massively multiplayer games that's cross platform.
I love the sensationalist responses about WoW being addicting like crack. It's just like anything, the majority of people can use it responsibly and in moderation, but all the attention is paid to those who become addicted. Way to fuel the machine.
Also, the arrogant "if you play warcraft you don't get girls" responses. Maybe you forgot where you were posting? A PROGRAMMING FORUM PERHAPS? So nice to see you have managed to rise above the stereotypes often associated with programmers. Ohh the irony when you go back and project that same stereotype back onto gamers. Hey umm... your inferiority complex is showing.
WoW is a huge social enviroment. You are interacting with real people. I play with real life friends. My brother is deployed in Kosovo and although I haven't yet, I hope to be able to play with him while he's there. <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span>, I know grown adults with grown children who play. It's a fun game. Yeah, it may not be the most productive activity in the world, but it's more stimulating than watching TV or playing console games, that, for some reason, don't have the same stigma attached.
dont hate the game playa....is that why WOW is the most played game right nowDaedalus- wrote:World of Warcraft is boring. I played it for a long time and while it was fun for a while, now that I look back, the game was mediocre at best.
The only remotely interesting thing about it is the fact that half the universe plays it.
There are better games.

i agree with you there....this is some pretty funny stufffeyd wrote:This thread's turning into Forum Confessions of a Gamer Gone Sideways.
I don't want to start an argument about why it's popular, but tbh.. imo it's only popular because it's very easy to pickup, takes not a great deal of skill to play (aka noobish) and is uber eye candy.
other games such as DAoC which has a much steeper learning curve, but is still the same genre and playstyle of WoW is not as popular, but doesn't have as many eejit kiddies playing because of that very reason.

ill agree with you in one thing jenk...sisnce kiddies started playing the game even i havent been wanting to play sometimes but define simple...playing a warlock or a shamman is hard stuff and its even harder duling a shadow priest as any class for that matter...you have to know your stuff in alot of casesJenk wrote:I don't want to start an argument about why it's popular, but tbh.. imo it's only popular because it's very easy to pickup, takes not a great deal of skill to play (aka noobish) and is uber eye candy.
