i don't mean to be "kiddy" with all the gaming post but am i the only person that has stepped back and thought vid games has came a long way in 20 years....when i was a kid sega genesis was the thing with its ground breaking 16bit graphics"Streets of Rage" was the best game ever(i thought id throw that in there)....but now you have the X-Box and PS2 and for you online, or you true/diehard console gamers waiting for PS3 your like this is the best it can get...i wonder whats next...what our kids will have for vids and the graphic out put of future consoles and computers
i take it you have seen the the new PS3's blunder of a new controller...it looks like a boomerang.....but i guess its still not as worse as the first xbox's "office phone controller"(so many buttons and so bulkey u had to ask how to dail out)feyd wrote:different controllers

Space requirements to three-axis sensors, wireless capability, and a need to make it a bit different. I have the orignal Radio Shack pong system with 2 paddles, one of which had a red reset button...
Great fun my sister and I had on that machine...I was only about 3-4 when we got it but remember playing it clear as day...
Shortly there after we got the Commodore Vic 20, which had color graphics and cartridges and came with it's own version of BASIC introducing me to computers and programming...
Video games have come a *great* distance since day one as well as technology in general...
Often I hear people say, why do we need more computer power, enough is enough...
Perhaps that can be said for some games, but I know in the world of flight simulation...more is definetely better...
I haven't played video games for years, but I still tinker in flight sims...until there is zero difference between virtual flight and true flight, there is always room for improvement...
A flight sim will quickly eat up CPU and other resources like there is no tomorrow...

Not as old school as you may think. I got my first game system at 13. I actually don't play a lot of games, but I do own many, several of the systems and have worked in the industry. Graphics and presentation has come a long way yes.
Unfortunately the gameplay hasn't moved as much - there are very good titles, gems you might say, but they are few and far between. The most innovations come from indie/casual game developers, which naturally don't come easy to the mainstream. Mostly you get something old in a new cover
MMORPGs are an exception of course, the MM element is surely a novelty, but from what I follow, the genre has yet to produce a 'gem'. Most titles succeed in just geting boring and repetitive...
I remember an interview with the creator of Katamari, who was asked why are so many original titles coming from Japan. His reply was that from their top 100 titles only 3 were not a sequel ...
Btw, has anyone tried xbox live arcade on the 360? The only game worth playing is Geometry Wars... yeah, innovative as hell

I'm satisfied with 2d play. The SNES is about as advanced as I got in gaming. I like the classics. =]
Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.
