I'm surprised no one has asked yet - what OS does the server run? You wouldn't believe the number of people who run windows as a serious production server. Of course, theyre the same people who believe the Microsoft FUD and can't find their way around the *nix enviroment.

It's not my server, but it's on RedHat I think.
I didn't find out how he did it. It wasn't my stuff that he gained access through (I think). He managed to change every index.html and index.php file on the whole webserver to his file.

Dude, when my host's servers got hit a few years ago, the bastards appended every .php, .phtml, .htm, .html, .txt, .inc, .asp and everything else except .tpl files. My host never did tell me how it was done, but I suspected, based on the line spacing in my code after the hack, that they used a script to rewrite my files. Those butt munches deserve to be sentenced to 10 years of hardcore document editing on a non-networked Windows 3.1 machine. With a VGA monitor and 512K of ram.
