Allow me to educate you...I actually work for a automotive aftermarket company
A car typically comes in several designs:
1) 4 door
2) 2 door - coupe
3) El'Camino
They have 4 wheels usually...and are typically powered by factory supplied, fuel injected, normally asperated 4 stroke engines (suck, squeeze bang blow).
That's about the extent of my knowledge...I repaired a dirt bike in my teens, from the ground up, so I learned alot about small engines and the principles of 4/2 stroke engines...and I later took a basic engines course during groud school for a flight scholarship introduction course I took, which introduced me to the basics of engine mechanics...
Other than that, I couldn't tell you the difference between a BMW or a Mercedes Benz (Beamer?)
I know what a 69' GTO looks like...as my dad is a huge fan...but thats it...
Oh...I could also tell you what a caliper is, rotors, pads, shoes, etc...but wouldn't have the sligtest idea as to how to install them...well maybe a slight idea as it's fairly obvious, but 100% correctly...probably not
Basically, don't ask me to *fix* your car...
I'd much rather get electricuted than smash my finger with a hammer or get my hands dirty

I drive a '99 CX with an integra block/B16 head swap... which I know isn't much to brag about

Damn FWD.

Edit: SVN seems to take care of versioning for you...??? Is this how most projects are numbered, because of what SVN tells you???
Off topic: Rather back on topic
I finally got a projected accepted by source forge, setting up SVN...reading docs about it's use and of course...when I try and read SVN docs on tortoiseSVN web site...
Bad Gateway errors ensue... (*&@(#^&(*^@#*&@%#^%
Of course...just as I'm making some head way and almost have my project uploaded...damn thing chokes on me and now I have to wait until problems are resolved or whatever was happening gets fixed (hopefully not on my end

)

All version control systems do versioning on the files. Subversion keeps the same version number across all files stored in it. CVS keeps versions for each individual file. The version in the repository can, technically have a baring on what version you label your software at, but I personally have yet to see anyone do so. Since a projects' version number is a personal choice the people working on the project decide on, the number can literally mean anything.
We've had some discussions on project versioning, dig them out if you're interested. I'm not going to rehash them.
As for FWD stinking, yes I agree completely. Even in snow.

I didn't think there was reason to start a new thread, but it's related...soo...
I just (AFAIK) uploaded a release (zip) of my CMS to source forge...I've read some of the docs and it appears that the 'incoming' directory in which I upload is actually just a temp location...and once uploaded it disappears...
Does sourceforge take a day or two before it's transfered into my actual project directory for download? Or is this immediate? Cause I can't download the release yet???
Someone explain to me what a trunk, branch and tag is please
I've SVN'ed my files into the trunk directory I created, but when would I use branch? From what I understand it when the same codebase needs to branch off in different directions for whatever reason? Does these branches later get merged???
I'm most lost about what a tag is though???
Anyone???

Sometimes they do, sometimes not.

SourceForge's release system is a pain. So is the SSH (although it forced me to learn!). One case where security outweights usability.
Someone explain to me what a trunk, branch and tag is please
Trunk - primary development
Tag - a snapshot of the trunk that was officially released
Branch - secondary/parallel development

After uploading to a temporary directory via FTP, you then need to go and select your file from said directory and select it to be included in a release of your project. It's a bit messy tbh. Why they can't just have a web upload is beyond me.

Ooh, I get that sometimes! Firefox mixes up the images on a page. I just force a refresh and it goes away. It's real annoying when a smiley is being used as a gradient.
