Online Poker

Post by jayshields »

Just wondering about online poker.

I've been bored through the summer and turned 18 recently so started playing poker online. Do any of you guys play? For money? Where? Have you made any serious cash through it?

I deposited $40 (£20) a couple of weeks ago and I'm down to $25 now. I've only ever won anything once, lol. The other night I finished 34th/688 and won $2! Entry was $1, lol. I'm playing on pokerroom, but I haven't properly tried any others, although I wouldn't mind trying betfair poker (because I use betfair for the occasional online bet and it's UK based, unlike pokerroom).

I heard from a few people that playing online for the odd couple of pounds/dollars is OK, but when you start playing for 10's and 100's you start getting conned by tables full of people who can all see each others monitors, not like I'd ever play for serious amounts of money anyway - I'm not addicted (yet)!

Any thoughts?

I play on 888.com and PartyPoker.com but purely because Im also a small shareholder in both so feel I should support them.

Usually play for around £20 a week in bed just before sleep. Have never made anything considerable. If I still have my 20 from last week I feel I have done well.

Considering all the spam I and this forum gets (or got, as it is).. no. I'll play an actual game every once in a while, but nothing online. No thanks.

I play with friends (for money but only small amounts), but not online no :) It's nice to get all the lads together, have a beer, rinse some money out of them and have a bit of a laugh. Looking at it as a money making scheme is when you start to think about stopping playing completely.

I'm not a gambler, so no I don't but just about everyone I know 'online' have made a mint from online casino 'scamming' (though it's not exactly scamming)

register at a site with a purse bonus (e.g. you give $20 to purse, casino donates $20 as welcome gift)

Play games for no more than $2 bets. If your 'free' purse gets used up, withdraw your initial payment and never play at that casino again.. move onto next casino.

The theory being you never actually lose, because you never gamble with your own money..

Most casino's have wisened up however..

Everybody's enititled to have their fun, but when I read the words online and poker my stomach turns around. The daily spam I have to deal with, the online filth associated with it.. let's say it's not for me. And besides that: isn't the real charme of a poker game to be with your friends/others, in someone's home or in a casino, having real fun going out? (even if your intention is to try and win some money)
