Don't mind what I've heard of Tool. Bit wall-of-sound-loud for my tastes though, prefer APC - still get Keenan's genius, but toned down the background a bit. Shame tho', looks like they're gone for now and for the foreseeable future. :(

I've been to a Tool concert before, but it was a festival and didn't allow them to fully display their greatness. Isis was great too, but I missed most of their act because my buddy is a girl and kept taking forever to get ready and losing his ticket every 5 minutes. I was utterly stoked all weekend.
Yep, Tool is "da bomb" baby. Love it.

I don't really like mainstream, I like mostly unsigned industrial. Because they try *really* hard and sound good in doing so.

*EDIT*

Oh, and to stay on topic... I don't like Tool.... they seem to be on par with A Perfect Circle.... whom I also dislike.

Never heard of Tool.

When I saw this thread I assumed it was some new PHP Editor or IDE... :?

:P

Not really that uptodate with music, me. Most of the music I listen to is 70's rock on cds. If I do hear anything recent, it's Italian!! (Any guitar fans out there, check out Alex Britti - incredible guitarist. Plays an acoustic guitar, and records sections while he's playing, plays them back in a loop, and plays more over the top, records that, plays more etc. etc. to create a sound like a full band playing.) Great stuff.

Not a fan of tool. They seem to have some pretty rabid followers but I guess I just don't "get" it. Then again, some people like to eat raw fish. To each their own. I like easier listening stuff anyway. Reggae/hip-hop/whatever-sounds-good. Always been a big fan of Sublime, slightly stoopid, Bob marley and 311. Listen to a lot of underground hip-hop, stuff like atmosphere, aesop rock, jedi mind tricks, etc. Even some mainstream, Eminem, jay-z, nas, OUTKAST (new cd is-the-smurf), Kanye west. I like Radiohead too, but I think a lot of their smurf lately is a little too experimental.

Tool is better than any band still making music. My all-time favorites in order of awesome-ness

Tool
Pink Floyd
A Perfect Circle
Led Zeppelin
Porcupine Tree
Sound Garden
Nine Inch Nails
Dave Mathews Band
Cream
Steely Dan
Dream Theater
Alice In Chains

I've been really into these bands lately tho:

At the drive in
KMFDM
Acid Bath
ISIS
The Mars Volta

Sorry man.... but it feels like the guy barely tries to make an effort to sing, and people go nuts over it.

I'll take your word for it.

Tool makes me think of the Goth kids on Southpark -- "I'm so non-conformist, I'm not gonna conform with you guys by conforming."

What?? Go see them live and tell me Maynard can't sing... 8O

and you say that having never heard them before? What do you mean by that? Me liking Tool has absolutely nothing to do with being a non-conformist. Their music is beautiful in every way... that's it.

Tool fans aren't goth... I don't even know where you people come up with this stuff

I've heard tool. My brother bought their new CD and played it for me. I thought it was crap. Not that it really matters what I think. I don't like it, so I don't listen to it. Why are you so adament in convincing people that Tool is such a great band? It's clearly a matter of personal taste and opinion. You can't "convince" someone to like something (Ok, you can, which leads my back to my conformist quote).
