a mac revolution
is it just me or does it seem like as of late everything in computers/web seems to be built around a macs interface....has anyone seen the new windows beta?
i have no general problems with macs....their geared for the designers and the graphics on those things kick butt...its just a nightmare and a half to get programming software to work on them...thats my only problem

Re: a mac revolution
Funny you say this. I am really annoyed when I read in computer magazines or papers that "Windows and Mac are more and more looking like eachother". Well DUH!! If microsoft blatantly copies apples design.... but that's something many forget to mention.Obadiah wrote:is it just me or does it seem like as of late everything in computers/web seems to be built around a macs interface....has anyone seen the new windows beta?
I have seen the screenshots of vista but I must say they greatly overdid it with the glassy, shiny and transparancy stuff. I wonder how long you would be able to work with that interface before switching back (if possible) to a classic view?
What programming software have you had trouble with then? (i've had no problems so far)

Probably true to an extent. Macs are better looking. Just a little overpriced, however. That said, don't forget just how much they both copied Xerox's Palo Alto research center's designs at the start.matthijs wrote:Funny you say this. in saying that...you know how every once in a while(every 3-5 years) you get the urge blow some dough on a new gaming PC....so you order up the parts via tiger direct and something and build yourself one....theoretically couldent it be a MAC before the OS is up there....i mean...isnt that the only thing that seperates a PC from a MAC....if so....couldent Macs and PC's be evenly priced that way minus the software?feyd wrote:Overall, they are all comparably priced (with the exception of the Macbook line). When you're comparing the prices you'll need to compare software load outs too now. Macs come with a lot more software stock than a Windows PC.

Without modification of the OS software, Mac OS will not run on "any" Windows ready PC. Without drivers, Windows will not run well or at all on Mac hardware either. This is why Apple has Bootcamp. There is the virtualization option ala Parallels however.

The OS 10.4 GUI is actually a master piece.I'd prefer a functional interface over a pretty one.
The XP GUI is so irrational and crappy, I have to use Windows XP on a daily basis at work
Windows has it's place..(in the bin)..just kidding, seriously though Windows is good when you lock it down and don't let people install software etc, but even then about a month later you're gonna have to reinstall everything because as soon as you uninstall anything the pieces get left all over the place and you need to buy a third party piece of software to sort it all out and even then theres no guarentee it will work grrr.
How anyone who knows anything about computers can claim that Windows XP is an overall better OS than OS X 10.4 is totally beyond me!
It's the perfect combination of Power and Beauty, I know in the earlier OS Xs (10.0-10.2) they are a bit 'cartoonish' but the style is totally toned down and understated now.
and underneath the GUI is the command line which is about 100 x more powerful than the DOS prompt...**** the DOS prompt, I'm ranting now. *deep breath*
To whoever said about dev being hard on OS X, check out XCode and REALbasic.
