What's with Perl programmers?
I went to a Perl chatroom once to help me with preg matching. And the guys there did help, but then I mentioned that I was using it for PHP..... and the flaming ensued. What's the deal?

I don't think they're all like that. I guess you just went into the wrong roomBigun wrote:I went to a Perl chatroom once to help me with preg matching. And the guys there did help, but then I mentioned that I was using it for PHP..... and the flaming ensued. What's the deal?
Did you get the help you needed? I might be able to help with a little Perl regex

All languages get a bit of flack occasionally from people who evangelise other languages. PHP is looked down on because it's pretty much Visual Basic for the web (monolithic function set, incredibly easy to use, introduces flawed software design in the hands of a newbie..). If you want to a lisp forum and mentioned you were using Perl you'd get people saying your code will be unmaintainable because it's written in smilies.Bigun wrote:I was just wondering if there was some kind of fued between PHP and Perl programmers.
It's no different to the sort of chat you get on car forums, music forums, movie forums.. everyone has there favourite and they like to put the others down. Human nature I guess.
