Web accessibility statistics

Post by alex.barylski »

Anyone here know of any web site which keeps track of such stats???

More importantly I want to cite a well known provider, specifically of the number of users world wide who use screen readers, etc to help back up my claim as to why XHTML standards compliance is important???

So number of users world wide who are unable to view non-complaint web sites???

Anyone???

Cheers :)

Nope :P

I haven't researched the subject, as I'm just reasching the point now where I need this kind of citation ;)

Figured someone on here may already have an idea as to where I would locate such information...

Do you think you're posting a lot of stuff you don't need to Hockey? You can research this stuff yourself and then dig in about specifics. We seem to be overwhelmed with new, long and drawn out threads by you lately...

Heads up!

Heads up!
It's a reasonable question I think

*start of rant*

Considering all the other dribble that other members post...and the fact that I only have 1550 some odd posts...I think your claim or statement is *highly* unjustified...

Posting un-nessecary content??? aka: Overwhelmed by new, long, drawn out threads???

I find rather offensive and completely out of line...

I don't "typically" ask questions involving programming...like: "why are my headers not being sent"...or "what is wrong with this code"...

I try to stick to details, giving my opinion only when someone else has before me...

I am a stickler for details...so yes...if someone says something wrong...especially in a authoritative way...and I happen to know better...I will publically correct them...and I expect the same in return.

I cannot help but feel (based on PM's or public out cry by an "open communities" team of moderators) that I am being demonized, vilonized...and perhaps osterisized.

And mostly for just doing what *everyone* else on these boards does...

Please, I ask you to show me an instance where I have done wrong and I will show you similar wrong doings by 2 other members...in addition to that...I find instances where they didn't get flamed publically for it, nor increse notority.

My long winded disscussion about template engines was justified...and I understand some of your feelings being hurt (as Smarty/TL advocates) and wanting to go against experience and reason. Thats fine.

But I'm also tired of being public enemy number one on all but a few moderators hit list. I am human and I have the same rights you all have maybe even more or less depending on your geographical location I guess.

You cannot (in the spirit of openess) stop me from posting content...at least which I post...I haven't broken any laws or gone against any agreement. I don't share serial keys, illegal software copies or even nude photos with any member.

I stay within confines of what I consider fare/fair and justified terms or use.

So please, do me a favour...if you are a moderator (unless your name is Everah :P) and you wish to publically slam me so others can see how "bad" I am, bite your tongue...or your finger tips in this case. I don't wanna hear it.

If I do something which warrants my permanent banning, then ban me, but make sure you bring to my attention the reason behind it or I'll just come back as someone else. :P

I can't help but laugh while writing this. I can't believe I'm being condemed for something which everyone is likely guilty of.

Boooo moderator monkeys...if this is a public community the people in power should be elected...and IMHO that hasn't happened. Clearly it hasn't happened.

Can I call an election and run for leadership myself? :P Can I have a list of the email addresses of all the people who have signed up at devnetworks.net?

I had more to say, but I started getting political...and to ethically keep this thread alive I decided to drop that and stick with context...

I was just hoping someone had links to such data...of course I searched Google...but I always use *as many resources as I can* in everything I learn or do...

I wasn't looking for someone to Google for me...but hoping someone had found a link previously in a business journal or something similar and cared to share with me...

Geeees...you guys are way to sensitive

*end of rant*

I never said that server side was better :P

I actually regret you reading that post...I was gonna come here to delete it...in retrospect I always over react :P and then regret...and then get over it...

Thankfully, like my washing machine cycle...it's short lived and I can get on with it :P

Anyways, this thread is completely off topic...so I might as well take even further off topic :)

Server side...for code beautifying would be a better choice...only because it is such a dirty tool to have a round...by that I mean...I dunno...non-essential except for when you need it...and it's complicated...it's not easy writing a tokenizer which actually works 100%, nevermind rewriting according to set body of rules...

I was surprised that no one even submitted anything...seeing how many times I hear people on here say things like: "Use a code beautifier"

I guess no one actually uses one, they just advocate the use of them :P

A little bit like walking in the rain without an umbrella telling everyone else to not get wet...

Meh...I've got to try and figure out a easy way to intergrate multiple users into my CMS without using DB's and not having to refactor a s*itload of code...

Care to help me out? :P

I actually wanna start from scratch and use a DB...but I need something rather pronto...so perhaps hackin' away at my current incarnation will have to suffice...

Pitter patter...let's get at er'

Cheers :)

sorry, can't help. i'm working on my own big project that i'm going to create a company out of.

the beautifier thing is annoying tho because i would like one. in which i mean i would like to add a certin body of comments right after the <?php tags. but i'm not willing to look, search or learn to use. at least not for a long time :D

i just use a strict form when writing code. Be your own beautifier. Holding yourself to a regiment will speed up development in the longrun, and you end up having some damn good looking code.

Well done on the rant btw, i think the mods are sometimes out of line and hypocritical.

I'm sorry if I came across that way. My intention was purely to provide a heads-up that there seems to be a common feeling about an issue. I'll retract and let you guys carry on :)
