i need something like fraps for my desktop cuz fraps won't work. i'm trying to make video tutorials of how to do do certain very easy things because these people can't seem to follow written instructions.
does anyone know of a decent fraps-like desktop video capture?

There aren't many, and Fraps is one of the best.
Buy a TV card for about £10 with S-Video out, then, if you have a graphics card with an S-Video out too (you probably got an S-Vid to S-Vid cable with it aswell) you can just link them and download something like
iuVCR and record with no problems and no cpu cycles needed (well, hardly any).
