Coolest application you've ever made

Post by Luke »

I'm building an application that interfaces with Google Maps right now, and the admin panel for it is honestly the coolest thing I've ever made. It works so well. Basically you enter in a property (address, name and other stuff) and it will try to locate that property, and drop a marker on a map that is next to the form. You can then move that marker around, click save and wala! It's in the database. Then you can assign all kinds of things to that property. The user then comes and can click on icons that make certain properties appear on the map, and can search and find directions and the whole sharah. It's amazingly cool and I'll show you guys when it's done.

My question is... what is the coolest application/website/whatever you've ever made? How come?

The coolest app i have made is my DB Front-end I had made out of free-time/necessity back in 2005 as I didn't want that humongous phpMyAdmin. It is totally AJAX and so you can sort of do all of it in one place... right-click, select actions and it done... critical actions require confirmation so i would not accidentally delete/drop the whole table.column etc...

I was planning another cool app but not having much time on my hands :(

I know what you mean... there are 4-5 things I am dying to start writing, but a combination of not enough time, and not enough skill prevent me from doing them. (luckily both of those can be remedied with... more time :? )

I haven't considered anything I've worked on all that cool, ground-breaking or anything similar. Maybe my standards are too high.

I've made quite a few things, but I am not sure that any of them are really cool. I have CMS', full admin panels for entire web sites, network sites, etc. But I am not sure anything I have done could be classified as cool.

This sounds pretty cool... of course, i've used pma quite regularly, and just recently tried out mysql quck admin, i wouldnt mind trying out an "ajaxy" type of db manager...

I've made a few things I think are relatively cool and I'm in the process of re-making one of them now. One was a db front end (similar to what n00b did). It too is totally ajax and allows for inline column editing, inline structure editing, inline value editing, quick selects, quick wheres, bunch of other really cool stuff.

another one (one I'm reworking now) is a catalog manager for all of my mp3s. This new version is going to be really really sweet. (drag and drop songs into a playlist that can be played right off the site (through a flash player I wrote), or generate an m3u file to play in your favorite media player (winamp, wmp etc)...some other stuff that I won't unveil right yet. I will defintely be sharing this once it's done.

You know. But I got wait until I'm off work. They are accepting of me being on the forums, but playing games, I can't imagine it would fly seeing as it is my second week here. But I've been wanting to get back in the ring, if you know what I mean.
