Just a daily rant

Post by alex.barylski »

Get used to it...it's me :P

Linux is a joy...I seriously should have switched years ago when I first read about Linux...I could be an industry guru right now :P

I absolutely love the flexibility and amount of configuration...I am what I consider as big of power user as one can be...I maximize every ounce of my cpu clocks by utilizing anything and everything I can find and linux has more toys than I know what to do with :P

I'm in heaven...

RedHat RPM - OMG...what a life saver...haven't used it yet, just reading up on it...

I built something very similar for Windows many moons ago...I wanted to sell it to M$ (of course never did get off the ground) taking the diff of two files and applying only the patch (although not quite what RPM does???) is such a wicked way to do things...

I spent a long time learning the LCS algorithm and huffman compression in order to implement that stupid tool...and the whole time it's available as RPM under linux...

I am so excitied to start my own distro's...man will I learn alot form that experience...although it's gonna be harder than I first thought...it'll be sooooooooooooooo kickass... :P

Anyways, my rant...Windows sucks... :P Linux rocks...laptop keyboards suck too

If I type just slightly faster than 40WPM the caret jumps all over the place, so I have to slow down and type r.e.a.l s.l.o.w :P

What PITFA

Cheers :)

Had you stowed these rants in the closet all these years and now overwhelming us devnetters with them?

I see Hockey singing...

'Say I'm Sorry PHPDN, I never meant to peck you...
I never meant to peck you & make your head fry...
but these days, I am cleaning out my closet....'

for those who don't get it, think Eminem's - Cleaning out My Closet

If you love RPM you'd love Debian's API, you can even convert an RPM to a DEB using debain's ALIEN, all this stuff is obviously avaliable on Ubuntu because it's a fork. :)

You really need a blog. In fact, I'll host one for free for you until my dreamhost hosting expires. I'm not using them for jack anymore because they have more issues than Linux has features, but that is another story.

Anyway, yeah Linux is great. If you like RPM, you'll absolutely LOVE YUM.

Personally, I am a Fedorah fan (Fedora is the free version of RedHat in case you didn't know). It's what works for me, and there is great support out there for it...

I'd like to start a movement for a Hockey Featured Blog, hosted on devnet.

I love fedora too. fedoraforums.org (i believe) is a great resource. I dual boot XP/Fedora. I don't spend enough time on fedora as I'd like to. I'm usually too busy. =[

The only reasons I have not reformatted my PC and put linux on it are...

1. I couldn't figure out how to get the TV tuner to work in Linux
2. I have another Linux box right next to it that I can SSH into
3. I can still do all my web development using cygwin to run quanta through SSH

Other than #1 (driver issues, in my case), I see no reason to use Windows except for testing purposes and games that don't work in Wine. All of these issues are being addressed by the open source community, so they are all negligible IMHO.

I just switched to Linux this week. How can anyone not like an OS that has Perl installed and ready to go?! :D Getting widescreen resolution to work was a total pain in the butt however it was worth it. Just need to get Cool'n'Quiet and the lm-sensor working and I'll be ready for the next Florida Summer.
