Ipods ship with virus conveniently pre-installed
All that talk about Macs not getting viruses on their commercials... well I guess that doesn't include iPods.

as the slashdot comment said: if i make a small cannon and shoot a golf ball though a window, should I be angry at the window manufacturer for not making a stronger window?d3ad1ysp0rk wrote:This shows no flaw on Macs part other than not catching it before being shipped. If you read the articles about it, this is not a Mac or Ipod problem but strictly a Windows problem. It was caused by some company they HIRED to make the Ipod using a Windows computer to setup the Video Ipod. Apparently the Windows computer was used for things OTHER than it's intended job. In other words some employee at the contractors production facilities was probably using the Windows computer to view PORN sites while programming Ipods.
You can't blame Macs for that. But you CAN blame the contractor.
And remember the worm would only affect an unprotected Windows computer when you connected the Video Ipod as a mass storage device. If you never use a Windows computer or only use Macs then that virus could stay there forever and never affect anything.

Irrelevant. The iPod bares the logo of Mac... not the company Mac hired... it may be the contractor's fault, but you if you hired a web designer and he subcontracted his work to some moron, who would you blame?AKA Panama Jack wrote: It was caused by some company they HIRED to make the Ipod using a Windows computer to setup the Video Ipod.

Do you have a personal vandetta against Mac? One boo-boo certainly won't change their outstanding reputation IMO.The Ninja Space Goat wrote:Irrelevant. Oh no... quite the opposite. I plan on buying one next year, I just don't think that Microsoft or anyone else should be to blame here. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to blame Microsoft because I hate them, but it's not their fault.
Oh... and I kind of get a little irritated by thier misleading commercials. They claim they are invulnerable to viruses, but how much of a target are they??

This has nothing to do with Macs at all. Apple shipped a music player with a very dangerous virus. If Sony sold an mp3 player with a virus that could steal personal information then that would be 100% Sony's fault. Just because Apple happens to sell computers that do not get effected by this virus has no bearing to this problem. Apple is ultimately responsible because people assume that the software prepackaged in their music players are free from dangerous viruses.d3ad1ysp0rk wrote:This shows no flaw on Macs part other than not catching it before being shipped. Umm, read the first post. Including Macs in mine was due to what he said.alvinphp wrote:This has nothing to do with Macs at all. Apple shipped a music player with a very dangerous virus. Ninja, very informative, I never would of imagined, however, its feasible, considering a while back a few record companies got in some big trouble, turns out they put anti piracy software on their CD's. So for apple to write something divisive as this is, I can see and understand how its possible. It Sick though, really terrible...
If the roles were reversed and apple owned 90%+ of the computer market, and windows held a small percentage.. windows would be the one bragging about no viruses.
The more popular it gets, the more viruses and the likes that will be written for it as the interest in finding flaws in Mac OSX increases.
