Need a new CCFL tube for my Laptop screen

My Laptop's LCD screen has just burned out tonight. When I turn the laptop on it flashes for a split second and then all you can see is just vague shapes koving around on the black screen. It seems like the light has bruned out in the screen. When I connect a CRT to the VGA port it works fine so it's not the video card.

The thing I need to replace is called a CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluoride Lamp) but finding one withing reasonable travelling distance in the UK is proving to be a bit of a nightmare.

Does anybody know where I might be able to get a CCFL tube direct from a store (in the UK) so I don't have to wait to have one shipped from online? CCFL tubes are not specific to LCDs or Laptops since they get used in nightclubs and stuff to make neon lighting effects.

This weekend could possibly have been the worst time to have broken (again) cos I've got loads of works on :( Might have to go into the office to do some cheeky freelance work 8O

Ok dude, you need to buy that new computer ASAP. How much further do you have to go?

Hah... people seem to have stopped with that scheme :( Got another £200 thereabouts. What I'm considering doing is buying a TFT screen cheap today, using that with the laptop and then when I get the Mac I can just use it asa monitor for it cos the Mac Minis don't ship with screens. I'll just fully disconnect the laptop screen and essentially have the base of the laptop infront of it.

I've been getting by with a patched up computer for a while now. I don't car paritcularly providing I can access the web and write code :) But it will be a relief to see the back of it.

I bought this monitor and have unscrewed my laptop's screen.

It actually doesn't look that bad having a laptop base (just looks like a weird keyboard) sitting infront of a nice monitor. Shame my laptop only goes up to 1024x768.

Now, I wonder how much a laptop screen with no CCFL will fetch on eBay :)
