I just got an email from a friend of mine in regards to the new Microsoft Vista End User License Agreement. I thought it was interesting. This is not meant to be a 'Lets flame Microsoft' thread. However, most of us that opt for an open source way of life might find this as fuel for the fire.

That's the only way to express my emotions without flamebaiting.

I upgrade major components on a 6 month cycle for my main PC - that could be a yearly replacement... Depends how they define the difference between a new PC and an upgraded PC. IMO, there's little difference.

The funny thing about the new vs. upgrade issue is that the Microsoft techs that were contacted could even answer that question with any confidence. Could imagine adding a new motherboard to your machine, using your second (and last) install key, then have your motherboard hose in a week because it was crap to begin with and have no OS to install on the new, improved MB. That justs seems like lunacy to me.

Ubuntu *coughs*
I tried about a dozen well known distros, both KDE and GNOME...I finally settled on Ubuntu for it's ease of use/install.
It's awesome

I'm reserving judgement until we see how 'successful' the upgrade algorithm is at detecting upgrades.

Also something has been pointed out to me, is this for OEM or retail (or both?)
EDIT: nvm, Retail is specified in the article.

I really think Microsoft is being too lenient. If they really want to help promote Linux they would only allow the original device. However, I think Microsoft is definitely moving in the right direction.

Here is another article on the subject. A little bit more objective on the whole matter...

For gamers, there's no alternative but to adopt Vista if we wish to stay in the gamers demographic.

Which proves that the majority of gamers doesn't have a problem with the Vista license...

I'm a gamer, I will be obtaining Vista, but I still have a problem with the license.

That the majority of gamers will be forced to tolerate the license in order to "stay in the gamers demographic" doesn't imply that they like the licensing...
