What speed connection do you have access to

At home I have a small 8Mbps down 844Kbps up ADSL connection.

At work I have 2 x 622Mbps central pipes.

Small?

Here at uni I think it's a 100mb line but it's shared between about 20,000 people. From the Microsoft website I usually download at about 5mb/sec, general downloading is blocked here though :( (like LimeWire and BitTorrent).

At home I've got 10mb cable.

Local connections around here are mostly capped at 4mbps, but if the server is a short hop from Atlanta, I can easily make 6mbps. It was relatively the same when I was last living in Miami, California (outside San Francisco), and Redmond.

Are you a sufferer due to distance from your BT exchange?

No, I just chose one of the lower ones. We're on cable internet in any case from NTL. I don't use the internet for downloading music, videos and wot-not. Most of my internet traffic will be from visiting devnet, using svn, connecting to servers over SSH and some more adult stuff. If I had a 10Mbit line it would be wasted :)

viewtopic.php?t=53666

254Kbps Down
385Kbps Up

(This is from work, and we have been having all kinds of problems today).

I'm at work but I think our wireless bridge from the main building is being a bottleneck.

2mb/256k at home.

Work is slower.

My old office had 2x4 bonded 20gb lines, 4 'live', 4 on standby. Trading bank so communication is vital for them.

The UK get shafted for DSL, cable not too bad though. I'm in London. My Exchange is sub 1 mile away yet I'm only able to get 2mb.. If I got cable I could get 20mb or higher (20mb is currently the highest 'home' service iirc.)

The Japs, last I heard, have a free 100mb net connection in every home. Japan is like a giant LAN/WAN.
