PHP vs. Joomla
My current web sites are designed using PHP/MySQL. I've been approached by a developer wishing to convert my sites to Joomla. Their portfolio looks pretty slick. Any thoughts?

That's my question. I don't know if there are any advantages. But they did say that "by converting to this system you will have access to over 800 components and an easy to administrator control panel."

PHP vs. Joomla
My 2 web sites are dating services and are heavy users of content management. However, I am not a developer and looking at the code would be meaningless. I'd just like to know if it would be worth the cost to change platforms or simply update the exisiting code. At between 5-10K per site quoted, the benefits would have to be substantial.
Most of the "dating packages" come with some sort of admin interface specific for sites functions. I doubt he can offer any more functionality then what you have. If you need more functions I'd check with the company that you got dating software from. You can usually get components and extensions for $20, $30... which may be a better choice.

I do have a functioning admin interface. The company who created and is hosting my sites is charging $80/hr. for any updates and has substantially raised the amount of time required for updates. That is what has prompted me to start looking elsewhere.

i used that system for a month. i was not a fan at all. i thought the whole system was too hard to navigate admin/user. too much going on and not enough control. i prefer systems where it's all control with less fuss. i personally think there are alot more better CMS's out there but then again Joomla has just so much stuff. it's almost worth fussing with it

Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.
