Do you ever 'explode' over 'small' things? [rant]

About 2 months ago, we regraded our 'net package..

So, come regrade day - I can't login to my SSH/VPN stuff .. a few minutes of investigation I find they removed my Static IP. (SSH/VPN restricted to single IP)

Phone them immediately to ask to have it back "Sorry sir, it will be reassigned ASAP."

*phew*

a week passes and still not reassigned. (still dynamic too.)

Phone them again every day for the next 5 days.. get given the usual piffle trying to fob me off etc. but eventually I persist and get put through to their 'ip team' (lol.. as if they call them that) and am on the phone whilst they reassign it.

Wait a day for it to filter through, it's the wrong number.

Phone again.. "Sorry sir, it has been reassigned. We operate a 2 week grace period in which to allow our customers to report mistakes like this." .. ignition..

"We cannot reassign your old IP." .. blast off. I cannot describe the pure fury I am experiencing at this point..

following on, I have spoken to all kinds of people with dubious titles, had them contradicting each other, all the while I still haven't got my frigging IP back! Lucky for them clients have not reported any problems else I'd be thermo by now!

So.. I ask my hosts to re-register IP.. they want an admin charge.. now I am a little more annoyed, but decided to ask my ISP to pay before I get worked up.. first they refuse to pay, so the poor guy on the phone had an earful, then the manager refused to pay, he got an earful, then changed his mind, but will only pay by means of offering one month free of charge off my bill, which just about covers half the admin charge.

2 months after the problem was first reported, they have only just now (today) agreed to contact the new owner and ask for it back. They promise to report to me what the customer says, of which I will scrutinise like a mofo to be sure it's not a fob off.

I'm now ready to collapse into a black hole I have exploded so violently.. as some will know, I'm an angry man at the best of times.. this is not a pleasant me at this moment..

__

Call me old fashioned, but whenever I make a mistake with a customer, or even joe bloggs for that matter, I go out of my way to correct it as best I can... why oh why are so many companies so reluctant to fix their mistakes these days? :(

Time to stick some SOAD mp3's on and scream death to all things and smash thin air..

be nice but firm. be insistent. the company always caves in the end and ya don't even have to yell.

sometimes I explode over little things...

Code: Select all

$stuff = explode('.', $foobar);
// Little things

lol

I feel your pain brother...I drives me to no end when companies jerk (or in your case Jenk) you around... *giggles*

I would have acted pretty much the same...<span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> off...

I bought business cards from http://www.vistaprint.com a while back and those sneaky buggers have a link after payment which if you click and don't read the small print, authorizes them to give your CC information to a advertiser...who CHARGED MY CARD!!!

Needless to say I will *never* do business with them again...nor will I suggest anyone does business with them...

Stupid business practices and yet they still make money...and I have a helluva time finding freelance work...despite lower than standard rates...but I'm tired of those cheap buggers anyways...like their not already getting a deal...considering my experience and quality of work....and they STILL pinch pennies...complaining about an extra hour and accussing me of over charging... *lol*

I should just write garbage code littered with security holes...redundant function definitions...and such...no comments...and then obfuscate the code at the end of day just to further f*ck em' over...

But no...I love software development....it's my passion...my hobby....my life....it's everything to me and more...and it would bother me to no end if I knowingly wrote or designed crappy software...so I apply all my years knowledge and experience on every project and never stop learning...constantly challeging myself and forcing myself to change and accept the fact I won't always be right...in the end making myself a better developer day in day out only benefiting those scroogey bastards...

God damn those cheap MOFO f'in buggers...how dare you critisize me without the slightest clue as to how *real* software should be developed...

Yes my friend I feel you pain...daily...whether through corporate giants or small indie businessmen looking for a deal...I've always got the short end of the stick...but when my day comes...and I'm sure after 10+ years of working at it...my day is coming....OH YES...my fellow brethren...my day is coming...AND WHEN IT DOES...the world will feel my wrath and suffer the consequences of madness drunk with power....I will strike down upon thee with a vengence...how does that line from Pulp Fiction go??? Good line...Samuel Jackson ;)

Whoa...what was my point??? I kinda lost it there too ;)

Haha...I just remind myself...it can only get better from here...which is the one positive thing about being at the bottom...things can only possibly get better...ewwwwwwww...

Grass is always greener on the otherside....until you realize your on the septic field... *lol*

Har har har...

Who feels like punching Bill Gates in the gutt with me???

Cheers :)

So is the situation corrected? I probably wouldn't have gotten that noticeably worked up, but I certainly would have steamed. I have a few instances like this in the past, and usually calmly explaining the situation to the level 2 supervisor with the level 1 CSA on the phone in conference solves a lot. But not all the time.

I hope this works out for you.

I'm not getting the address back, according to the helpdesk and the 'ip team' (that still makes me chuckle)

But I've now been forwarded onto the complaints department to sort out financials, and to give them a stern talking to, to see if they will at least try and get it back. This is what has peeved me so much, not one person has even tried to get it back.

If they were able to take it from you and reassign it, why can't they take it from the new assignee and give it back to you?

"policy"

It's what I am currently awaiting on a reply for. They have admitted that taking it away from me was a mistake, but they won't even ask the new owner for it back. There is also an added twist in that if they hadn't taken so long to respond, it would never have been reassigned and would still be free.

Tbh, I'm just sick of dealing with them now. If it weren't for me moving within the next 6months, and the rest of the house not wanting to go through the hassle of changing ISP, I'd have swapped ISP already.
