From A Dev PoV, Do you like or use MySpace?

for reference: PoV=Point of View....
I tend to dislike MySpace for several reasons:
1. I hate most user page layouts as it reminds me of the GIF horror from the 90's
2. I hate most user page layouts because most users seem to never realize you can't read
white text on a pink full page animated gif layout.
3. I hate most user layouts because they just have a bad design.
4. I hate MySpace because of the horrid speed whenever I attempt to go
(yes, granted they have millions of users..... I don't care)
5. I hate MySpace because it was not the first website(or popular) of it's kind
but instead took the idea and somehow(because of CNN and crazy members)
was able to achieve popularity.
6. I still can't grasp the awesome concept of having a single webpage devoted to you
when it is is so easy to have a full website.
7. Numbers don't mean crap, yet MySpace members want as many friends as possible to
prove how 'popular' they are.... cough-bull shi.....-cough
8. If you want the best example of superficial, join and use and bow down to MySpace.....
9. Myspace is a perfect free spam trap.
And yes, I DID create a myspace account for my Website
one day when I was very very bored,
however in doing so it only elevated my hate for MySpace
and I have not approved and logged into my account for over 6 months...
To be fair, I also hate many Blog Code packages such as
WordPress/Blogger/Moveable Type
when there is another Completly Free Blogging Package out there called:
Lifetype which offers the same plus Many More features then any other Paid/Free Blog service available

I guess my "dev pov" is different to yours..
All I see with MySpace is £££££££.
The idea(l) is awesome.. a simple homepage CMS, open to the masses.
Like many bright ideas on the web, I'm utterly kicking myself for not coming up with it first.

hrmm, i agree.
However I feel so sad for what it has become........
but if I owned MySpace basking in my Millions of dollars...
I would probably care less just the same?

You can't blame MySpace for some of the homepages, which are appalling and I would even go as far as a saying a health hazard (epilepsy anyone?)
All the owner(s) of myspace.com have done is bridge the gap between internet homepage -> joe public. A simple job no one else has managed to accomplish with such a broad success.
Genius.

I agree again.
Damn, the simplest of ideas are the greatest.
I still fume and refuse to ever use LiveJournal, considering the Pay-For-Content
when there are better completely Free alternatives.
DONT even get me started on my hate for youtube.....
so simple... *sigh*../
I think I have just always refused to use/accept anything the popular public deems worthy.
My only exception to this rule has been learning/using/developing PHP.......
<---back to work on my project I guess?

$1.5billion would be nice pocket change, should I have been the creator of YouTube. Judging by the amount of 'bad press' it's been getting lately, with regards to copyright and sensitive material, the sold at the perfect time too.

Speaking of bad press...
As the sole owner/developer of an EX-lover exposing website,
is it wrong I wish someone 'exposes' their ex and either
is killed by their ex or kills their ex just so I can get National Press coverage?
Not that I wish harm on anyone, but Yea Im human and desire all the exposure I can get....
well yea, even with the 'being human' excuse,
I'm damned........

any press is good press.
even places like Myspace/EQ/WoW has received death press.
Im not interested in death.
Press is nice though.
Im just not afraid to say I like it under any circumstance.
p.s.
the Smurfs used to be on my list of favorite cartoons when I was little.
2 months ago I tried watchin Smurfs again to re-live some childhood joys,
and I could not figure out wth made me love them so much.........

lets take this scenario
your site becomes large
someone actually dies because of actions on your site
press find this post
what do you think public reaction would be?

public go to website to see what fuss is about.
curiosity is a fact that can't be ignored.
however, to remain true to this... public would also forget about site within 1 week
so long as website stayed out of media.

This is pretty weird. Wanting anyone to die to benefit you in any way is completely wrong. You think if you asked the owners/developers of "Myspace/EQ/WoW" if they are happy someone died so that their project received more traffic they would say yes?

Ignoring the morals, asking them if they gained profit because of the proverbial deaths.. I know what the answer would be.

Not to sound cold hearted but many websites/company/organizations can benefit from a person's death.. when Steve Irwin died think about how many terds wen't and searched for his death video. It is a sad world we live in.

If you go and look at the thread about Steve Irwin in this site... like half the people on this site said they'd watch it.
