Anti-virus and Anti-spyware software recommendations

Post by Luke »

My subscription to Norton Anti-virus has just expired. I don't really like Norton because it's a resource hog. What do you guys recommend? Is AVG anti-virus any good? What do you guys use?

Also, my subscription to SpySweeper just expired as well. Is adaware any good? What do you guys use/recomment? Thanks in advance!

I heard SpyBot was spyware from all the computer technicians at the computer repair place I used to work. That isn't true? I'll check that antivir out... thanks man... do you use it?

When I was using Windows, yes, AntiVir scored highest in 2004 - even above all paid-for anti-virus products.

Spybot, the last time I used it, is definitely not SpyWare - this is the one I mean, as there are clones out there (like for most antispyware) http://www.safer-networking.org/

Can you tell me where this place is so I NEVER go there?

Spybot is one of the best anti-spyware programs out there. I'd say it's a tie between that and ad-aware (SE Personal), which is why I use both. They seem to catch ones each other doesn't. I also like to finish off (or start) with a hijackthis run.

I've heard really good things about BitDefender.

haha, unfortunately I don't have that option. I really would like to start messing with Linux, but I need to get a box I can get used to it on before I just dive in head first
