Selling A Web Site

Post by s.dot »

I have a website that I am considering selling (please no questions on which.. I am not sure yet.)

I've had it appraised. The actual site according to the appraisal was $32,500 and the domain name was worth $2,500.

How do I go about doing it or let people know that it is up for sale? What kind of documentation do I need?

Is the web site tied to a business or an individual? Are there any legal entities associated with the site/domain?

Really you should ask a lawyer, preferable one that has handled business sales, mergers or acquisitions. Get their input.

And congrats on building a site that attracts that level of use. That is amazing dude. Good job.

Thank you.

I only posted the dollar amounts because selling it on a forum or some other online medium would probably not attract the kind of people that I am looking to sell it to. I think only a business would be interested in purchasing a web site in the thousands.

That is usually the case, but not always the case. If the site can generate enough cash flow to justify a $35,000 expense, any business-minded person would at least consider looking at it. The cost of the purchases is not the only thing to look at. Sometime the potential value is enough to make someone want to buy.

I'll give you three quarters of a chicken and donner kebab wrap for the website. It's approximately 12 hours old and refrigerated. I had it apraised for $35,000 - that's $2,500 profit right there.

scottayy... you'd be a fool not to take this offer.

Scottayy - ask some business owners how they would go about it. Do you work for a business owner? Ask him/her. If you have any friends with good business sense, I'd definitely cash in on their advice.

Is that a sly comment that appraisals can mean diddly squat, and that scottay should get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and even a 5th opinion? :P

I'm not so much interested in the appraisal right now. I'm interested in the practices of selling a website that has a ballpark figure of what the appraisal mentioned. ;)

Thanks for the feedback. Everah, I think I'll go with your advice and consult a professional/lawyer.

Good luck buddy. I hope it all works out for you.

I know now is not a good time, but you owe me $32,000 in legal fees.
