Pancakes are actually pretty good for you aslong as you don't go mad on the toppings. Use margerine instead of butter and/or add a sprinkliing of sweetner and/or some Jiff lemon. Try savoury pancakes too.

It's the carbs that do it to me. Flour and Sugar being the main culprits.. and a pancake without flour is not a pancake.

I never understood how margarine is better for you than butter... isn't margarine just whipped grease?

I think it is the cholesterol, but without my margarine and butter wrappers in front of me, I can't be sure.

And pancakes can be good and/or bad, depending on what you put on them Chocolate syrup, chocolate chips and whipped cream can make them bad for you. Strawberry jelly can make them better for you.

/ Thinks about how bad I want pancakes.

Mine will have both.

People will hang around busy junctions hoping for a pile-up.

Rule of thumb: The harder the fat is, the worse it is for you.

Margarine is softer with less saturated fats. Saturated fats are bad for you and clog up your arteries. Polyunsaturated are what you want. But butter beats margarine any day (for taste I mean).... only when it's warm and melted though :)

I'm not a big fan of margarine... it seems so artificial.

So lard is ok so long as you melt it first?

I can't remember the last time I ate butter, so I couldn't point out any differences between butter and margerine.

Of course it is, that is why, as a Mexican kid growing up, I would see a jar of manteca sitting on the stove melting all day long. Whenever we needed grease, it was already 'soft and healthy' for us kids to drink, er, eat as much as we needed...
