yea, but it's not always about you. Even though Christmas means nothing to you, you should be able to bite your lip and just buy presents for everybody so they don't think you're an @$$

I think that's a bit modernised. If we get back to "the whole point of christmas" it's a religious event (not something to be discussed here) which, granted, does involve the exchange of gifts.

I'm not buying presents for anyone. Well, I've told my family (pretty much the only people I usually buy for) that I'm not buying anything much and would rather spend the money on contributing to festive things like lots of alcohol, getting my fair share of rounds in at the pub and xmas treats. No actual "presents" coming from me. Bah humbug :P I just end up wasting money on things people don't want. I seriously would not be upset if everybody said to me "we ain't got ya no presents this year; just come and have drinks, food and be merry with us!".

You could always get gift cards or prepaid cash cards. At least then the person getting it can go get what they want and you don't have to guess. Sure, it's a cop-out, but it beats the nothing card pretty often. :)

Having worked 3 years ina retailer, that used the SAME "Best of Christmas Hits" CD on repeat.. I can vouch that it will drive you nuts.

11 hours shifts with the same 11 track CD playing, 6 days a week, 4months in a row.. 8O (yes, 4 [four] months!)

On the plus side, I now know the words to "The Power of Love", "Last Christmas", "So here it is.." and a few others.. of by heart. But I twitch every time I hear them, and I stopped working there 6 years ago.

I always thought that the point was to make your self happy by giving gifts to others ... do something nice and have a good time ... and the humbugs can enjoy grumbling and still be part of the fun. Humans in the Northern Hemisphere have been partying up to and for a fortnight after the Winter Solstice since someone figured out this whole "year" thing.

I don't recall ever being bothered by being given a cheap gift (and kids homemade ones are best) ... whereas a thoughless one is worse than none. Buy me a beer and I will think well of you for a whole year. It's still the thought that counts.

Christmas was adopted by the Christians as a gesture to the Pagans, after dominating them, whom originally celebrated "Winterfest" to comemorate the shortest day of the year (but were off by a few days) and used lots of sources of light to lift the darkness and bring forth Spring (and new birth, new crops, new food and warmth.)

Or so says the folklore.

Agreed. The fact is, it is a day in which I get tons of cool presents and a day or two off of work. Now what can top that?

although i dont celebrate any holidays i couldent agree more with ya....nothing beats the morning where your not having to hussle out of bed and get ready for work...but instead getting to snooze away for a couple or more hours or even veg in-front of the tube...or even greater a free day to play some WoW...awsome!!! :P
