sticky keys in windows xp

Post by Luke »

there is one thing that has always really irritated me about windows xp

when you hit the shift key five times it turns on "sticky keys" and I cant for the life of me figure out how to turn it off

I hit shift five times again and then hit cancel but it never turns off

how do i turn it off?? it's driving me nuts!

WTF? I hit shift to make that last exclamation point and then it turned off. What the hell?

Start > Control Panel > Accessibility Options
Click each "Settings" button and uncheck "use shortcut" on each. Presto.

To turn off StickyKeys when a modifier key (CTRL, ALT, or SHIFT), or the Windows logo key Windows logo key and another key are pressed simultaneously, under Options, select the Turn StickyKeys off if two keys are pressed at once check box (Press T).
Borrowed from Microsoft.

Oddly enough I had the same experience. I would disable it, and then while playing a game where I had something as shift, it would minimize the game in the middle of action ( most annoying thing ever ) and prompt me with that sticky key crap.

Only when I went to the location feyd is directing to, did it actually keep it disabled.

I gave up disabling them long ago. By the way I can disable them on my home PC, but the company desktop won't accept the new setting. Could it be some Administrator priv in the way? (I know crap all about Window's internals...).

I had a similar problem with Kubuntu however I think I was turning on slow keys. Nothing like a keyboard dieing at random to make your day. Under Kubuntu it's System Settings>Regional & Accessibility>Accessibility>Activation Gestures make sure those are off. I still have no idea what the gesture is to activate slow keys? No problems since I turned them off though.
